Every 20 seconds, a child dies from a water related illness.

Place the purifier in a lake, pond etc (calm waters)

Tie it down to a near by tree to stop it floating away

Leave it around 8 hoursfor SODIS to work. During this time, the UV-radiationof the sun kills diarrhoea causing pathogens

Pull it back to shore and press the dispenser to release the clean water

Water evaporates and condensates into clean water droplets that get caught on the inside of the cone, which then slide down into a trough where the water is stored

How does it work?

Water Summit

Water bourne diseases are everywhere, especially continents such as Africa. This ingenious concept allows contagious water to be cleaned through a process called SODIS. This works by UV light killing harmful pathogens within the water.

1 in 6 people don’t have access to clean water

The max out put of the distiller will be 1.5L per day. Which is enough for a family of 3.

Adding Value. DeWalt DCD760KLImproving an existing product, by provding new features or a add on that gives a greater sense of value.

Sphere offers 360° of movement allowing the rotational and adjustable drill to reach tight angles with ease. With your hand supporting the power drill in the centre of mass, how ever difficult the drill you will always be comfortable.

Charging station, with extremely high voltage enables the battery pack to be smaller and lighter.

Suction Control. Less DustLighter. Cordless

The vacuum works simultaneously with drill and collects the extracted dust and wood chippings. This adds value to the product as the extra feature is also health conscious.

LED light shines on to any surface, giving you added value through improved and accurate results.

This refillable hand sanitation system uses a process called SODIS, the PET bottle can be removed from the sprinkler, filled with dirty water and needs to be left over 8 hours in direct sunlight. The UV light then kills harmful germs and clean water is poured through.

RSA: improving hygiene

Diarrheoa cases in Africa can be reduced by over 40%, just by the use of soap alone. So think what soap and clean water can

do...

40%

The bottle can be screwed and unscrewed at this point to

This project is based upon frugal design; it doesnt take much to upkeep and is very inexpensive to manufacture, and therefore its easy to implement this throughout Africa. The idea is that there can be 1 per household and a few per community, i.e schools. Maybe shared between 5 people, so the bottle would need to be filled every few days as little water is needed to actually wash your hands. Soap is used within the concept. The sprinkler can be removed for soap to be added in, therefore when the water pours out so does the soap. Leading to the most hygienic handwashing process as possible through using frugal design.

I believe its important to have some sort of chart to indicate when the water is ready to use. There are 6 shades for

each of the 6 hours the water takes to be purified.

A simple 6 hour timer could also be effective as it has

been proven to take 6 hours of direct strong sunlight to puri-

fy the water.100%

XTREME DESIGN KENDALXDK allowed me to do a non-placed placement where we communicated through Skype and was taught the basics of SolidWorks.

As a small team we designed a renewable energy system to be used at the bottom of reservoirs; The flow of water will push against the open vane and force the rotor to spin. At this time the vane will be forced close allowing the next vane to open. And so on.

The vanes are connected to the rotar, which in turn is connected to a generator and enables electricity to be made. This process will produce a minimum of 5KW.

The protective casing will be made out of stainless steel in a sheet metal form. Using solidworks I was able to flattening the metal making it easier for the manufacturer to work out the necessary dimensions.

Page 15: Portfolio 15

SolidWorks and KeyShot were used to achieve these results

There is a high powered spring located insde the rotor and attached to the vane. Therefore the water pressure will force the vane closed and the spring will counteract it. All in all making the rotor spin and generate electricity.

We have also modelled all the screws, bolts, washers and springs to the correct measurements to ensure the product will be stable and fit post manufacture.

This product is all about the user having their own independence. Therefore, everything is simple and easy to use from connecting to moving about. There is a simple twist and lock device around the spokes of the wheelchair wheels, once locked the motor is on.

The product is aimed to help manual wheelchair users get around highly populated, public and sometimes stressful places, such as supermarkets, shopping centres, hospitals, national parks, and zoos. By using the personal mobility device, it allows the user to carry on with there activities without struggling or becoming tired.

The Problem Hitting the wall

‘Hitting the wall’ is a term many endurance athletes use to describe sudden fatigue and loss of energy which is caused by the depletion of glycogen stores in the liver

and muscles. This process is called glycolsis.

NZ nereal-time Energy Monitoring

The Solution Pace and NutritionHitting the wall can be solved by the following; Judging your pace, knowing when your fatigue levels are low and consuming the correct nutrition at the right times.
