La casa del bailarn is a beach housedesgined for Joaqun Corts, a renownedSpanish dancer. Corts is a clasically trainedballet and flamenco dancer known for hissweeping armmovements and rhythmic feetstomping.

The house is buried in the ground wherestairs lead users from the street to a board-walk down at the beach. The stairs divide thehouse in the two areas: private area(bathroom, kitchen, bedroom) and publicarea (dance studio). The roof undergoes anundulating movements in flamenco dance. Above thestudio, a "catwalk" balcony hangs overlook-ing the beach's spectacular view.

The housing unit is spaced in a way that

    adequate ventilation, sanitation and

comfortis allowed, and contact betweenhouseholds is prevented as well due to

    tuberculosis epidemic. The proposal is

based on five points ofthe new architecture. The fundamental

single family- unit is proposed as an L

    shaped layout, combining six fundamen-

tal parts: main linving area incuding the

hall and dining area; a kitchen volume set

next to an outdoor deck to allow for

cooking on the outside; a corner unit tohouse a master bedroom; the main

    dormitories module, organized as a

    sequential repetition of similar rooms;

    and a service/circulation component for

the bathrooms and stairs onto the upper

deck. The L shape will yield a main

    courtyard essential to promote the

    benefits of integration between interior

    and exterior.

The boutique hotel is locatedin the high-end, tourist area ofCondado. The actual site is avacant, rectangular lot thattakes part in the urban fabric ofthe exclusive beach sector. Anexisting ten-storybuilding that iscurrently abandoned is restoredto be used as hotel rooms forguests. The new program is an

add-on that compliments thehotel service and ammenities. Itincludes a gift shop, alounge/bar, administration area,a restaurant, and three multi-use activity salons. The projectcorresponds to a design partiofan open concept layout madeup of a two combining volumes:a U-shapedvolume overlappedby an L-bar .

Guido Moretti works with the transformation of geometrical

figures through the use of optical illusion. As the objectrotates in different angles, its perspective changes creatingthe illusion of more figures and forms than they appear.Mampara is a conceptual study of light and shadows withan exploration of surface and form. The model is composedby three independent figures that form one single object. Aslight hits, Mampara creates an exquisite interplay of lightsand shadows that vary at every angle. Repetitionis a keyelement to the composition of this surface.

of convergence of different types of

building: cultural, commercial andresidential. The city calls for a secularspace capable of emancipatingindividuals from the quotidian hecticurban realm and providing anintrospective place where inner self isenhanced.

My intervention is a courtyardbuilding that hangs over a plaza. Theurban light chapel provides an

area where people of any religion, belief, or idea may gather for physicaland emotional manifestationsallowing a syncretism of rituals. This syncretic experienceis enhanced through the use ofnatural light. Illumination is crucialfor meditation, peace for the mind, spiritual tranquility and joy. Everyintention of defining spaces in thecelestial diamond is merged into

one that holds the key to freedom ofmind and spirit. The project isintended to re-define spatiallythe dichotomy betweenprofane, mundane andthe sacred.

Thetriangularsite provides a base for a floating diamond which contains thesacred program of the building. Users ascend to a higher spiritual level as theytraverse through the building. The building program is distributed from themost profane to the most sacred functions. This program consists of four

levels: administrative, educational, meditational and the spiritual, that relate toa main urban plaza. The atrium defines the circulation inside the diamond andallows visibility from the chapel down to the plaza. Each floor contains aprogram that supports the function of the chapel, working as a verticaltransition.

The diamond shaped gridcovering the main sacred space,is used as a structural space frame that filters direct naturallight, creating a celestial experiencein the chapel and other

levels. Fivesteel columns are located inside the atrium toprovide rigidity to this floating diamond. The diamond issupported by two solid arms of concrete containing a crossbracing steel system. The concrete arms are the mostimportant structural elements in the project for it is thestructural system from where the diamond supports itselfand presents the connection of both space frames.

SESC (Servio Social do Comrcio)is a non-profit institution in Brazil thatpromotes culture and good-living to citizens. The idea is to target all agegroupsin one space where they can enjoy sports, recreation, culture and educa-

tional activities. Families and friends have a variety of activities to choose fromsuch as exhibitions, concerts, seminars, debates and workshops. They as wellprovide other services such as sports facilities, cafeteria and healthcaretreatment to its visitors.

SESC Repblica is one of many social services of commerce (SESC) locatedin the heart of the city of Sao Paulo across Placa da Republica, a historicalrevoltionary square. We proposed a subterranean connectionbetween the nearestmetro station to the sport facilities level providing easy acces to subway commut-ers. The building is a pure cubethat contains a theater,restaurant/cafeteria, gym/gymnastics, dental offices, library/bookstore, spa and many other areas open fortemporary uses.

The atrium acts as the protagonist of the project. It opens up , shiftingas you descend to upper levels looking up to a reflective pool located at the roof.

The water quality of the Cuyahoga Riverwill improvethrough the use of biopools. Therefore, the river isextended along the sides of the bridge to make roomfor the treatment areas. Biopools are artificial basinsfilled with aquatic plants located near the edges of theriver or on the lower-level bridge as a landscape

element. The system is a lowmaintenance biologicaltreatment free from any chemicals. Phytodepurationoccurs when aquatic plants or macrophytes removepollutants from water through an oxidation depurativesystem. This design intervention is proposing treatedwater to return to the Cuyahoga River falling from theedge of the bridge to the body of water as a waterfallduring warmer seasons and as fog during colderseasons, creating a sublime experience for theviewer.

Therestaurant sits 26 people with vinyl blackand white banquettes, off white wallsdecorated with black and white photogra-phy, and an orange cantaloupe acts as anaccent color in pillows and other details. Amonochrome "woodwall" pattern coversalmost an entire wall becoming an iconicpiece in the design. The space is dim litwith vintage carnival lights that are hungfrom side to side. . The bar design is a setof floating lit boxes that serve as a displayfor the bottles. The interior and exteriorbars are a mirror of each other making a"floating effect".
