A ratio is a way of comparing amounts.

The ratio of pizza to hamburgers is 5:7.

The ratio of hamburgers to pizza is 7:5.

A group of students had a choice of either hamburgers or pizza for lunch. There were 12 students. 5 chose pizza and 7 chose hamburgers for lunch.
