Dear Parishioners,
One of my goals here in the parish is to make the Basilica a
wonderful place of devotion and prayer. It is already an amazing
building but it is more
valuable as a place to
pray to God! In the
basement, the Pieta was
in the hall by the back exit
door. We had a very
generous person pay to
move it upstairs and I
would like to put some
kneelers around it for
private prayer. I think the suffering of the Blessed Mother is
important for the spirituality of many mothers (and fathers) today
given everything that is going on. Please consider taking some time
in prayer to Jesus through the suffering mother. This was originally at
the St. Patrick’s Chapel and so we thank all our parishioners from the
former St. Patrick’s Church for this beautiful devotion. I hope to talk
more about it in the future.
I hope that more of you have downloaded the Parish App. I
would like to add to it on a regular basis so that it becomes a
complete resource for you right in your hand. I got the suggestion that
I expand the Mass part to include the prayers from Mass so that
people could use the app to pray especially now that we cannot have
any missalettes at Mass. Also, I need to work on it so that you can
submit your prayer intentions for the parish as well as review the
requests so that it is very easy for us to pray for each other. Stay
tuned for more to come and feel free to give me any suggestions. If I
can make it happen, I will!
Finally, we are seriously talking about having parking lot
Masses (WITH COMMUNION) in September. My heart goes out to the
people who have not received Holy Communion since last
February. This will not change the Mass schedule here because we
can fit it in given the current schedule. Therefore, all those who are
going to church can continue and with opening up the hall for an
additional 50, everyone who wants to go to church seems to have a
space. However, we have to tend to the souls who cannot yet get to
Mass but would be willing to remain in their cars. Peter Geiger has
offered his parking lot again so now we are working hard to see if we
can make it happen. Stay tuned!
Take care my friends, stay safe and pray that in God’s time this
will all be over.
~ Fr. Daniel

St. Rose of Lima,
Virgin (August 23)
Isabel de Flores y del
Olivia, confirmed with the
name Rose by St. Toribio
de Mogrovejo, was the first person in
the Americas to be canonized as a
Saint. She took a vow of virginity early
in life and became a Dominican
Tertiary when she was twenty. Rose
lived in a summerhouse in the garden
of her home, where she practiced
extreme penance and mortification,
modeling her life after that of St.
Catherine of Siena. She bore the many
crosses granted to her by God with
patience and fortitude, and spent her
time in consoling the poor and the
sick and suffering. Rose died in 1617
at the age of thirty-one.
Patroness of South America

St. Louis, King of France(August 25)
Louis, born in 1214, was twelve when his
father died. His pious mother Blanche,
who had taught him from his infancy to
love holy things, became regent of the
kingdom of France. Louis married
Margaret, daughter of the Count of
Provence two years before
being crowned King Louis
IX. In 1938, he led a
crusade to liberate the Holy
Land from the control of the
Turks, but was taken
prisoner. He was later
released, and returned to France, but
in 1267 he again set out at the head
of a crusade. During the siege at
Tunis, Louis IX became ill; he died
after receiving the Last Sacraments.
He was canonized in 1297.
Patron of Tertiaries and Prisoners
St. Monica,Widow
(August 27)
As soon as Monica was of
age, she was married
to Patricius, a pagan
citizen of Tagaste.
Although her husband had a violent
temper, she bore her trials with great
patience. Her example influenced him
so greatly that he finally converted to
Christianity, and was baptized a year
before his death. Monica’s great cross
was her son Augustine, who lived a sin
-filled life, seemingly despite her many
prayers for his conversion. Finally, in
the year 386, fifteen years after her
husband’s death, Monica had the
happiness of seeing her son return to
God. Her work in this world was
complete, and she died the following
year,

BREAKING BREAD MISSALS
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we had to
remove all of the Breaking Bread Missals from
our churches. So, we are offering them to you,
the parishioners. The missals will be placed in
the church lobbies for you to take. You must
take them home with you after every Mass and
bring them back with you to the following Mass.
If anyone in your household is not able to attend Mass in per-
son, please take a copy for them to use when they watch the
live stream Masses!
Donations are appreciated to help defray the cost to offset the
cost of next year’s missals that we need to order and may not
be able to use!
Dear Prince of Peace Families,

As we started our full time five day
schedule for the 20202021 school year,
we were pleased to welcome 33 new
PreK through 5th grade students to our
Lewiston Campus and 57 new 6th through 12th grade
students to our Auburn Campus. Twentysix of the
new students are high school players representing the
Nordiques hockey organization. It is an honor to
partner with the Nordiques to provide these student
athletes with a top notch education. This represents
the first time in 10 years the high school has grown
and represents strong enrollment in the lower grades
as well.

Orientations for all new students included an
introduction to the long history of Catholic education
in Lewiston and Auburn, a presentation of our
Catholic faith and culture, and the health and safety
guidelines and expectations for the year. Although
this year will look and feel much different than in
years past, the Dominican pillars of Study, Prayer,
Community, and Service remain the stronghold of
Saint Dominic Academy and the foundation for all we
do for our students and families. The St. Dom's
community will pray for an end to this pandemic and
for the wellbeing of all adversely affected by this
terrible virus. We pray in particular for all students,
their families, and all educators, public or private,
navigating the unusual waters of this school year. We
are continuing to accept new students even after the
start of the year if we can be of service to
you.www.stdomsmaine.org. God Bless, Timothy

THE BUSINESS MANAGER’S CORNER:

Now that most businesses are operating within the “new
norm”, we have begun our projects again!
First, most of you have heard or seen in the news that
the Basilica was struck by lightning in July. e are work-
ing with the Dioceses and the insurance company re-
viewing bids from vendors. Also, while the staging is up
for the lighting strike repair, we want to take ad-
vantage and save money by looking at other repairs that
need to be completed.
The Basilica is currently having a major upgrade to the
Internet services which will allow for better live streamng
and allow us to place a security system in and out of the
church.
At Holy Cross Church, we are working with Deblois
Electric to finally fix the track lights and convert them to
LEDs so better lighting is on the way.
In October, the outside stone walls of Holy Family Church
will be repaired and resealed to preserve the stone. Also
on September 28, Power Sound Of New England will be
at Holy Family church to finally fix the audio issues we
face in that church.
Holy Trinity’s sound system is currently be worked on, as
well as the internet services to allow for better
livestreaming.
The front steps of Our Lady of the Rosary are under
contract to be repaired either this fall or early spring as
soon as the mason is available.
As you can see, we have a lot of projects happening and
more not listed. Thanks to your generous financial
support of our parish we can maintain our buildings and
bring things up to date with today’s technology.
I am also taking bids for winter maintenance for all 5
churches. If you or someone you know is interested in
bidding, please contact me at the office,777-1200, for
more information.
God Bless,
Joline
