POOR WASTE MANAGEMENT

Page 2: Poor Waste Management

In the past Rome had a lot of problems involving the sewage system and the waste management. One of the problems with it was that the latrines (toilets)

that they had flushed the waste into the Tiber River and it eventually got so bad that when people drank

it they got sick and most of them died.

Page 3: Poor Waste Management

A system of eleven aqueducts provided Rome with water, the best being reserved for

potable supplies. Poorer-quality water was used in the public baths and in the latrines. Latrines were just toilets that they use in

ancient Rome.

Page 4: Poor Waste Management

They Romans were concerned with obtaining pure water because it was getting unsanitary for the people and it would eventually lead to

disease.

Page 5: Poor Waste Management

In larger Roman towns, people often got sick or died from drinking water that had been

contaminated with sewage and waste.

The taps all over Europe were being shot off, they wouldn’t be turned on again for nearly a

thousand years. Sanitation technology entered its dark ages.

Page 7: Poor Waste Management

They had latrines, or toilets that took their waste to the Tiber River, it became a big

problem because they didn’t have clean water to drink.

Page 8: Poor Waste Management

They also didn’t have a proper trash system so most people through it out the window in

to the streets.

Page 10: Poor Waste Management

One problem with our waste management is that when we have our garbage taken away, we can’t burn it or else it releases chemicals

into the air.

Sewage is usually generated by residential, institutional, commercial and industrial

establishments. It includes household waste liquid from toilets, baths, showers, kitchens,

sinks.

Page 12: Poor Waste Management

Classes of sewage include sanitary, commercial, industrial, agricultural and

surface runoff.

Page 13: Poor Waste Management

A system of sewer pipes (sewers) collects sewage and takes it for treatment or disposal.

The City of Cincinnati's Solid Waste Program is committed to reducing its reliance on

landfill disposal by promoting reuse, recycling and composting and is responsible for

ensuring adequate waste disposal capacity for its residents.

Page 15: Poor Waste Management

When wastewater leaves your residence and is piped to a wastewater treatment facility, where it is run through a series of steps to

clean the water prior to release into a creek, river, lake, or ocean.

Page 16: Poor Waste Management

Since technology has advanced so much, we can get rid of trash easier than the ancient

Romans could.

SolutionsThe Romans can work on a new way of cleaning

their water and disposing their trash. They can also recycle and create a composting system.
