their Mustang.
Don’t forget about our car show coming up in August. Remember this year we will be hold-
ing the show at Griot’s. There are still many opportunities to help at the show. If you
haven’t signed up yet, don’t worry, you will still have a few chances to do so. Charlene will
have the sign-up sheet at each event she attends up until the show.
Tip Of The Month
Now that car show season is in full swing, be sure to write the full club name not just
PCMC in the club section. That way Pierce County will not be confused with Pacific Cas-
cade Mustang Club.

New Membership Incentive- Missy Willert – The Executive Committee presents the following idea: To

Motion – Pierce County Mustang Club will waive the pro-rated dues for one year of any new or used
mustang owners who purchase their mustang from one of the three dealerships – Korum Ford & Lin-

Mustang of the Month
Dennis Willert and Missy Willert
I blame it all on my Dad! My love of football and cars that is. Mom and Dad bought a
new 1964 1/2 Mustang Fastback 2+2, I guess that was the beginning. They used to fold the
back seat down and lay blankets for me to sleep on during road trips; back in those days it
was ok. A few years later Dad bought a 1968 Dodge Charger, maroon with a black vinyl top,
with a 440 magnum with a six-pack! The family was stationed up in Minot, North Dakota. Dad
used to take the back roads to the Air Force base and blow out the carbon from the engine,
no surprise there! Ha I would be in the back seat and say, “There goes the gas Daddy, there
goes the gas!" Sometimes Dad still sees that old car driving around Mc Chord.
Years later when it was my turn to buy a car, Dad asked me what I wanted. My early
exposure to muscle cars and a crush on Spencer for Hire's Fastback, the obvious choice for
me was a 1965 Fastback, red or black. Dad found me a red one! I loved that car. My brother
ended up getting one too. At the time I was going to college and working at Big John’s Tro-
phies, back when Big John still ran the place. His daughter Holly was my best friend from jr
and sr high. She had a 65 coupe that her dad fixed up for her. Big John teased me every
day that I would never get my Mustang. I was also toying around with getting a personalized
plate, when my mom came up with CIGOTIT (see I got it) for me & CIGOT12 (see I got one
too) for my brother's Mustang. Seemed to fit for many reasons. We had fun in our twin
cars, both were red. I guess after one too many calls to my emergency roadside service, aka
Dad; dad tells me I should buy a NEW car. One that doesn't need so much attention. So I de-
cided on an Explorer. Dad and I went down to Mallon (now Lakewood Ford) Ford dealership,
and I purchased my first new car and parked the Mustang in the driveway.
Pony News July 2014
7
The sad day finally came when Dad got tired of my Mustang taking up space in his drive-
way, so we fired her up & shopped her around & sold her. Sniff sniff. As a new teacher I did-
n't have the money it would take to fix her up, so...
Another several years came and went, and I decided when I paid off my Explorer I
wanted to get a new body style (2005+) Mustang. We were all very excited. One day I was
surfing the web & stumbled across the New York Auto show where Ford was rolling out the
Shelby GT 500! I no longer wanted a Mustang, I wanted a shiny red with white stripes Shelby
GT 500! My parents were shocked! They had no idea that Shelby was turning out cars again
and a little surprised at my choice too. It didn't take too long before they were on board too.
I went down to the dealership to inquire about getting one. After talking to a salesman or two,
it turns out I knew more about it than they did! So I put my name on "the list" with a sales
woman. I came back every 2 or 3 weeks just to check on things. One day I came in and she was
no longer working there! Oh no! So, another guy decides to scoop me up. I tell him what I want
and his response was that I should buy a Focus! WRONG BUDDY!
So I met Ray, one of my favorite salesman, and he put me on his list, which was long... So
after almost 3 years of waiting, visiting the dealer every other week, holiday goodie baskets
of red & white treats, bottles of aged Scotch wrapped in, yes red with white ribbons, I finally
got the word, I would be one of three people to get one of the dealerships allotted three
Shelby's. Woo hoo! On January 7, 2007 I took delivery of my baby. After three years of wait-
ing and not really knowing if I'd get one, I finally did! With new snow on the ground, and Dad in
Idaho taking care of my mom after her heart surgery there was no one to show her off to!
I decided it was time to bring back the license plate.
Dad loved driving mine around while I was at work so much that in 2008 he bought one
of his own. He asked my brother if it was ok if he took his old plate and there you have it, our
Mustang pedigree.
Pony News July 2014

I found a yearly gathering of Shelby's down in Battleground, WA that we have enjoyed
since 2008. That got us wanting even more Mustang fellowship, so we looked for a club to call
home. First we found a Shelby club, but they were of the Cobra variety and were really only
interested in meeting up at XXX and BSing, they didn't have any activities they participated
in.
We first hooked up with PCMC at the 2009 Luau & have loved every minute since. Yes,
in case you don't know, my partner in crime is my dad. We enjoy our Shelby's & everything
PCMC together.
We have done parades, shows, events, and all things Mustang since. At our first show I
parked next to another 2007 Shelby GT 500 red with white stripes over in Port Orchard who
happened to know my license plate! He said that somehow I had the license plate off his old
65. Ummm, no. I told him the story of the plates and we discovered he bought my old 65.
Small world.
Dad and I recently drove our Shelby’s 7,581.3 miles to Charlotte and back for the 50th
Anniversary of the Mustang along with Mustangs Across America. What a thrill ride that
was. We have met so many great people with our Mustangs over that last few years. Many
we consider family.

3 Hour Cruise
The morning of June 21st saw the gathering of members of the Pierce Co Mustang Club for a tour of the local back roads out to Issaquah and back. 17 cars met at 9:00 at the old Lowes park-ing lot in Puyallup, and after a bit of socializing, embarked on the cruise. The cruise was broken up into two halves, about 90-95 minutes of driving on each half. In the middle of the cruise, the club enjoyed a no-host lunch at Triple X in Issaquah. Jose was kind enough to accommodate the group, and even offered up some T-shirts and gift cards to the restaurant as raffle prizes.
After lunch, the group (minus a couple of cars) began the trek home. The trip home, though it ended at our original starting point, was a different route and offered a chance for different scen-ery. With only one lost car, and a minor unplanned stop half-way through to collect the group and for those caught in traffic to catch up, the trip home was quiet and uneventful. A few cars dropped off the group on the way home, but the remaining cars gathered back at our starting point and so-cialized again for a few minutes. A good time was had by all, and the responses were enthusiastic and encouraging.
