What’s new in Media Manager v6.0.4.8?
RealPresence® Media Manager v6.x / Build 6.0.4.8 has many exciting new features, including: All new UNIVERSAL web-‐portal for Media Manager based on the HTML5 standards, designed to
ensure that Media Manager is compatible and easily navigated by virtually any smartphone, tablet, PC, MAC and other HTML5 compatible devices. The portal actually detects your device and formats accordingly. Clients that don’t support HTML5 will get standard HTML with little to no change in the User Experience.
This new HTML5 portal avoids the need for several device specific apps (iPhone, iPad, Android, other) needed to access the portal.
The new portal has a more modern, visually oriented look and feel, with several new or enhanced areas:
o Category Carousel – Swipe-‐like browsing to move between categories o Content Mosiac – Offers thumbnails of videos in 4X2 viewing pane o Portlets (Featured, Popular, Upcoming events, Recently Viewed, etc)
Media Manager v6.x new HTML5 web portal includes a new embedded player for playing back live and on-‐demand video within the portal (no more pop-‐out windows, unless the sysem admin

configured pop-‐out player for existing presentations, for example, that have customized “skins”). This embedded player ensures all content has the same look and feel no matter where the content came from (Capture Station, UGC, RSS, etc).
The Media Manager v6.x web portal includes enhancements to UGC upload and meta-‐data editing, including more intuitive user interface for adding meta data such as chapter markers and the ability for a user to revise UGC meta-‐data via the web-‐ui at a later date (for example to change a chapter description).
o Uploading content is now via the “my uploads” button at the top of the portal Media Manager v6.x received several key enhancements to content “ingest”:
• Improvemetns were made to Capture Station v6 to provide more automation and better category management of Capture Station presentations.
• Admins now have the ability to scan/import multiple file types with new Rules-‐Based ingestion & mapping in a single scan for ingest into media manager from a single repository / root directory.
• A new “Mass Ingest” capability allows an admin to import a complete media library from a standard Windows folder hierarchy. Each folder becomes a sub-‐category in the Media Manager content tree, with the contents of each folder being added into the catergory structure.
The Media Manager v6.x web portal now supports anonymous acess and viewers. Pre-‐selected content (vod and live) can be accessed easily without registration or login.
• Mobility Integration (Option)– This new, optional Integration Module adds seamless integrated transcoding functionality to Media Manager v6.x such that content in the new HTML5 portal is automatically transcoded for playback on the mobile devices selected by and supported in MMv6 (iPad, iPhone/iPod, Android Phone and Tablets). This option includes the code and licenses for up to (5) transcode engines (customer provides the physical or virtual Windows 2008R2 server) and workflow logic. Each Mobility Option License includes (5) licenses for highly distributed transcoding for the largest scale deployments. o The Media Manager Admin will designate what (or all) devices will be supported (iPad, iPhone,
Android Phone/Pad, etc) o The Media Manager Admin will designate what (or all, including legacy library) content to
transcode, on what trasncoder. o The Media Manager Admin will designate where to move the transcoded, on-‐demand files for
stream distribution or progressive download to mobile devices for playback. • Digital Signage Open Integration Framework (Option) – Media Manager v6.x gets a new option for
Digital Signage via an “Digital Signage open integration framework” that allows Media Manager v6.x to be integrated with compatible digital signage systems from leading players in Digital Signage. Media Manager v6.x can PUSH videos to those signage system’s repositories, as well as REMOVE videos previously shared with the signage system. o Compatible systems at launch include Scala and X2O Media.
• Media Utility for IBM Sametime (Option) – Media Manager v6.x introduces an option that allows IBM Sametime users to easily upload recorded SameTime conferences (audio + content) and UGC to the Media Manager v6.x system. This is very similar to the existing Lync Utility, and makes it easy and intuitive for Sametime users to contribute content to Media Manager v6.x.
• SharePoint 2010 Integration Module v2 (update) (Option) – This is an update to the existing SP-‐IMv1 that includes several customer requested enhancements, including more search/filter/display capabilities and language localization in sync with Media Manager’s languages. o SPv2 includes a post install configuration wizard and improved, expanded documentation.

Chapter 1: Information for existing Media Manager customers planning to upgrade
The new Media Manager v6 “embedded player” vs the “legacy” pop-‐out skins.
Figure 1 -‐ Media Manager v6 "embedded player"
Customers upgrading from earlier versions of Media Manager will most likely choose to use the new v6 embedded player, especially if they plan to support mobile evices for their users. If the Media Manager is installed with the defaults, all content will play in the new, embedded player (see above), including “legacy content” created by Capture Station, Media Editor or other applciations.
Customers with customized presentation “skins” may selectively choose between the new embedded player for certain content types (RSS, UGC) while using the “pop-‐out” skin to preserve skin

customization and branding. Please note that using pop-‐outs in Media Manager v6 is likely to be incompatible with use on Mobile Devices (unless the skins come from a PRCS/PRME v6).
As noted above, Media Manager v6’s web portal allows the admin to control display of content in either the v6 embedded player, or the pop-‐out viewer-‐ system wide -‐ by content type, as defined in the web.config file:
<!--NEW: Possible launch mode for different content types. You can use // or /* */ to comment out some settings. As long as that line ends with a semicoln. If you don't set a value for a content type, it'll use the default behavior for each type.

Media Manager v6 Social Sharing The new Social Sharing feature allows portal users to share any Media Manager video they can view with a link or cut/paste embed embed code to display the video in another webpage. This capability is accessed by authenticated users from the “more details” link for any video in the Media Manager portal. Note – just because the “shared-‐with” user can see/share the link/thumbnail for a particular video, doesn’t mean that use can actually watch this video – Media Manager content permissions follow the link/embed. Unauthenticated viewers will be challenged for user/password in order to play the video.
Polycom Media Manager v6.0.4.8 -‐ Release Notes
8
The Social Share capability is a variable set system wide – it can be enabled or disabled for none/all Media Manager portals by an administrator with Windows OS access to the Media Manager application web.config file (typically found at C:\inetpub\wwwroot\Polycom\RealPresence Media Manager\Portal). The Media Manager default for this feature is OFF.
The embed code generated by Media Manager has the largest recommended size (w=720 h=670) to fully accommodate the maximum width and height attributes for the Media Manager viewer in the embedded iframe. Users can manually edit the W and H when they copy to a HTML page to change the dimentions if the embedded viewer needs to be adjusted. Within the embedded video, the video and slide area will size dynamically according to the space provided by the width and height.
To enable Social Sharing for ALL authenticated users, you must change the DisplayShareLinks key from the default “false” to “True” in the web.config file on line 82:
<add key="DisplayShareLinks" value="False" /> = default
<add key="DisplayShareLinks" value="True" />
All content types in Media Manager support the Social Share for embeddable HTML / link sharing. When a user loads a webpage with a Media Manager embedded content player, if the content is “protected” (not available to an anonomous user as defined in the Media Manager library), the user will see a login page within the embedded page (see figure below). This is true for all Media Manager

authentication methods, including forms-‐based, LDAP/AD and web SSO modules (if web SSO is enabled and configured, they will NOT see a login if they are properly authenticated via the SSO).
Figure 2 -‐ Embedded content challenging an un-‐authenticated user
To enable SSL protection functionality to work with Media Manager embed function (so the page switches to HTTPS and then switches back to HTTP), you must make a change to the web.config configuration file for PRMM:
login... -->
<add key="RequireSSL" value="None" />
<!—values are DefaultResources/All/None. Set it to All will force all pages to go thru SSL… -->
Note -‐ If you want only Login and Homepage to go thru SSL channel then you can put an attribute [RequireSsl] on top of the Index action in the HomeController (since the Login action already has it).
Polycom Media Manager v6.0.4.8 -‐ Release Notes
10
