Podemos expressar o futuro em inglês basicamente de quatro maneiras:

1. Com WILL:

I think Brazil will win the World Cup.

2. Com BE GOING TO:

I am going to drive to work today.

3. Com Present Continuous:

I’m playing football tomorrow.

4. Com Simple Present:

The flight takes off at 7 o’clock.

USOS DO “WILL” (Simple Future)

a) Previsões com base no que se sabe ou acreditaque irá acontecer.• I’m sure you will enjoy the film.

b) Decisões tomadas no momento da fala.• The phone is ringing. I’ll answer it.

c) Solicitar ou oferecer alguma coisa.• Will you help me with my science project?• Will you have some Coffee?

ESTRUTURA DA FRASE – WILL (SIMPLE FUTURE):subject + will + verb (infinitive without to)

• Afirmative: subject + will + verb

People will change the way they use water.

• Negative: subject + will + not + verb

People will not (won’t) waste water because itwill be very expensive.

• Interrogative: will + subject + verb

Will people save water?

2. I'm going to read the books my friend lent me.

USOS DE “BE GOING TO” (Future)

a) Intenções: situações em que se já se decidiuo que fazer, mas ainda não se organizou.

• Marcus is going to buy a new car.

b) Quando há evidências de que algo vaiacontecer.

• Barbara is going to have a baby next month.

ESTRUTURA DA FRASE – “BE GOING TO” (Future)subject + verb to be (Simple Present) + going to + verb

• Afirmative: subject + verb to be + going to + verbI am (‘m) going to move to Manchester.

• Negative: subject + verb to be + not + going to + verbI am (‘m) not going to move to Manchester.(He, She, It = isn’t / You, We, You, They = aren’t)

• Interrogative: verb to be + subject + going to + verbAm I going to move to Manchester?

Note: no inglês informal, é comum encontrar “gonna”, queequivale a “going to”.

3. My bf* is coming soon. So I am leaving later.

USOS DO “Present Continuous” (Future)

a) Planejamentos realizados antes do momentoda fala que acontecerão em uma hora, tempoou lugar definidos (mais usado paraplanejamentos pessoais).

• What time are you meeting Samuel tomorrow?

• We’re leaving at 8 o’clock tomorrow morning.

ESTRUTURA DA FRASE – PRESENT CONTINUOUS (Future):subject + verb to be (Simple Present) + main verb (-ing)

• Afirmative: subject + verb to be (Simple Present) + mainverb (-ing)

I am (‘m) flying to New York tomorrow.

• Negative: subject + verb to be (Simple Present) + not +main verb (-ing)

I am (‘m) not flying to New York tomorrow.(He, She, It = isn’t / You, We, You, They = aren’t)

• Interrogative: verb to be (Simple Present) + subject + mainverb (-ing)

Am I flying to New York tomorrow?

4. My favorite singer arrives from New York tomorrow.

USOS DO “Simple Present” (Future)

a) O Simple Present com sentido de futuro éusado para:

• Horários, escalas e eventos com horários fixos, emque não se pode interferir ou alterar.

o The flight is at 7:30 next Tuesday.

o The game is tomorrow.

o The train leaves at 8 o’clock tomorrow.

ESTRUTURA DA FRASE – SIMPLE PRESENT (Future):subject + verb (Simple Present)

• Afirmative: subject + verb (Simple Present)

I have a class at 5:30 pm next Monday.

• Negative: subject + do not / does not + verb (SimplePresent)

I don’t have a class at 5:30 pm next Monday.

• Interrogative: do / does + subject + verb (Simple Present)

Do I have a class at 5:30 pm next Monday?
