Community Events Parish Announcements From Father David...

All are invited to make this Lenten Mission journey with your friends at St. Lambert Parish the evenings of March 12th - 15th beginning at 7pm. Evening topics include: ◊ Sunday, March 12th Topic: Our Being Proclaims the Lord! The human longing for God ◊ Monday, March 13th Topic: Israel proclaims “He is near!” God in the Old Testament ◊ Tuesday, March 14th Topic: Emmanuel proclaims “He is here!” Jesus in the Gospels ◊ Wednesday, March 15th Topic: The Spirit proclaims “He is with us always!” Jesus in the Church Presentations by: Fr. Richard Veras - author, educator and regular contributor to the Magnificat Magazine.

We adore You, O Christ and we praise You! By Your holy Cross, You have

redeemed the world! Fasting and abstaining from meat form an important part of

Christian spirituality during Lent. Another Catholic tradition is celebrating with food and

drink the great mysteries of Faith and the saints. What to do when the two traditions of

abstinence and celebration collide as this year, when St. Patrick’s feast day, falls on

Friday? Below you will find the note that our Bishop Paul Swain sent to all the pastors

of the Sioux Falls Diocese.

The optional March 17 memorial to St. Patrick falls on Friday this year, a day of

abstinence from meat during the season of Lent. Part of the celebration of this great saint

is often a meal which includes meat, specifically corned beef. Inquiry has been made of

whether in honor of the saint a dispensation might be granted from the obligatory day of

abstinence.

In recognition of the custom of many to raise up the witness of Saint Patrick

and its lasting impact, particularly families of Irish descent, I have decreed that those

who participate in an event remembering Saint Patrick where meat is served from the

obligation of abstinence with the proviso that another form of penance be undertaken on

that day.

For those who do not participate in such a memorial to Saint Patrick the day of

abstinence remains as a sign of the penitential call of Lent.

Saint Patrick, pray for us that we might experience a Lenten journey that leads to

greater conversion and a deeper relationship with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

Speaking of celebrating St. Patrick…I hope to see all our parishioners out at the

St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Sioux Falls. Our parish will have a float in honor

of our Centennial in the parade.

FR. DAVID

YOU ARE DUST AND UNTO DUST YOU SHALL RETURN A little boy came home from Ash Wednesday Mass and went into his room to change his clothes. When he emerged he asked his mother, “Is it true we come from dust?” “Yes dear” replied mother. “Is it true that when we die we go back to the dust?” “Yes dear, that’s right.” The little boy ran into his room and came out all excited, “Mom, I just looked under my bed and there’s someone either coming or going!”

Do you have questions about the Church's teachings on end of life decisions? The St. Mary Bereavement and Culture of Life committees are sponsoring a forum on the Church's teachings. Please join us on March 25th from 9am-noon in the St. Mary parish hall. Speakers will include a representative from the diocesan Respect Life office, Fr. Ed Anderson, and Dr. Glenn Ridder with a time for questions. There is no charge to attend. The event is open to all, and no preregistration is required. For more information contact Bonnie at 310-6535 or Jeanne at 310-7215.

We continue to collect pledge cards for the Catholic Family Sharing Appeal 2017. This is an opportunity for us to unite with all Catholics in the diocese to share our blessings and to show our concern for one another. Every gift, regardless of the size, is important to the success of Catholic Family Sharing Appeal and the many ministries that it supports.

If you did not bring your card this week, please fill it out and return it as soon as possi-ble. We need participation from everyone to support the many works of our diocesan church. If you cannot participate financially, fill out your card and offer a prayer for the success of Catholic Family Sharing Appeal. Our goal is 100% participation through time, talent and treasure. Again, any amount raised above our goal will stay in the parish. To those who returned their cards, thank you for your generous response!
