3. Disclosure of Pecuniary lnterest

There were no disclosures of pecuniary interest at this meeting

4. Delegations

Deputy Fire Chief Dan Smith was unable'to attend the meeting tò discuss the proposed '

new fire hall as planned. There was a discussion among the Members of theCommittee related to accessibility of the proposed facility.

The Committee recommended that staff submit a request to Council on behalf of theCommittee to proclaim December 3, 2016 as lnternational Day of Persons WithDisabilities in the City of Quinte West. Garried

The Committee heard from Anne-Marie Cunningham, Committee of Adjustment &Accessibility Coordinator regarding plans for the December 3,2016 Celebration Eventfor lnternational Day of Persons With Disabilities. Anne-Marie indicated that both PhilKerr and Victoria Nolan have been confirmed as speakers for the event. TheCommittee discussed ways of getting the word out to the public about the eventincluding posters to be put up all around Quinte West, a radio ad and newspaper ad totry to cover as large of an audience as possible.

QUINTE WEST, ON - The City of Quinte West Accessibility Advisory Committee ishosting a free event to celebrate "lnternational Day of Persons With Disabilities" onDecember 3rd, 2016 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the YMCA Quinte West, 50 MonogramPlace, Trenton.

"This event is being held to recognize the amazing accomplishments and contributionsthat people with disabilities make to our society", said Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison."lt promises to motivate and enlighten people to the unlimited possibilities of the humanspirit."

Phil Kerr, Extreme Sports Enthusiast & Successful Entrepreneur will share his inspiringstory of overcoming obstacles following his debilitating cancer surgery in 2O02 at theage of 13; becoming an entrepreneur running a successful clothing company, TwistedMounty and sharing his life experiences and success story with thousands of childrenby speaking at local schools.

Victoria Nolan, Special Education teacher and a Gold, Silver and Bronze ParalympicMedalist will share her journey from learning at the age of 18 that she was going blindthrough never giving up her dream of being a special education teacher or her dream ofbeing a rower for Canada's National Adaptive Rowing Team.

Everyone is welcome and we extend an invitation to anyone who wishes to take part inthis day of inspiration!

Ontario Helping Protect People with Developmental DisabilitiesProvince Launches Service for Reporting Abuse and Neglect

The Government of Ontario is expanding ReportON, a new service for reporting suspected or witnessed abuse of adults withdevelopmental disabilities.

fhe 24/Tphone line and email service is the latest step taken by the Ministry of Community,and Social Services to furtherimprove the safety of adults with developmental disabilities.

Abuse is often hard to identify. Examples can include being denied basic necessities like food, shelter, clothing or medicine.Even if you are unsure, but suspect abuse or neglect of an adult with a developmental disability, you should contact ReportoN.Each call will be investigated and the appropriate action will be taken. People can access ReportON by calling 1-8OO-575-2222 oremailing reportoNdisabil¡[email protected]. For text telephone (TTY): 416-916-0549 or Toll Free 1-844-309-1025.
