Once again the school Fete was a huge success both financially and socially. It is a truly social function with not only school families but also many others from the community attending and supporting our school community on the day. Whilst we did well financially final figures are still to be determined. Thank you to the many people who helped with the Fete. The organisation did not just happen on the day as we all know. Thank you to Theresa Blennerhassett, Trudy Tschui, Jane Berge and Melanie Collins who did so much of the organisation. Thank you to the people who helped set up on Friday, Saturday morning and then those who came back on Sunday to finalise the clean up. Thank you to the many parents who helped with the various stalls, from the BBQ, the Bar, the Cent Sale, stall holders, the ticket sellers and those who counted the money. Thank you to the teachers who organised the performances. Thank you to Greg Hunt for the sound system and to Nancy Marsillio for selling tickets leading up to the Fete and thank you to the many mothers who baked cakes over the last few weeks. Thank you also to the many businesses who supported our Fete through their very generous donations. It is very much appreciated. The Fete is only such a success because so many people help out. Thank you! School Fundraiser At a recent P&F meeting it was decided that the school would offer support to the Gilbert family as Owen continues to recuperate in Townsville hospital following his accident. His wife Stephanie and their children have moved to Townsville for the next few months and are therefore having to rent accommodation during this time. This Thursday we will be having a free dress day at school to raise money for the Gilbert family. Children are asked to bring in a gold coin. This Thursday the tuckshop will also be operating. A menu was sent home yesterday. Orders need to be at school by Wednesday morning. NAPLAN Results You may have seen in the media that the NAPLAN results have been released for the years 3, 5 & 7 tests that were undertaken by our students earlier in the year. As soon as we receive copies of the reports they will be sent home. Staff Changes I would like to thank Louise Campagnolo who completes her contract at the school at the end of this week. Louise has been working in the Prep and library throughout the term. Regarding staffing for 2013 Stuart Russell will be transferring to St John’s School Silkwood, Larissa McKirdy will be transferring to St Francis Xavier School in Cairns and Lucy Wells will be taking 12 months leave from full time teaching. All three teachers will be missed and I wish them all the best. Towards the end of next term we will formally farewell each of these staff members. Advertising for replacement teachers has now commenced. 2013 Tuition Fees In last week’s newsletter a letter was attached from the Director, Br Paul Hough. In this letter we were advised that there would be a 5.5% increase in tuition fees across the Cairns Diocese. As mentioned in the letter school fee increases are determined by the movement of the Education Index of the Consumer Price Index (as reported by the Australian Bureau of Statistics). For the year ended 31/03/2012 the education index moved by 6%. Please find attached a copy of the 2013 Tuition Fee schedule for the Cairns Diocese. As well as Tuition Fees each school has other levies in place. The levies for St Clare’s will not be increasing in 2013. Holidays Have a safe and happy holiday. Please note that school will recommence on Monday 8th October.
