What is Plan Manager?

What is Plan Manager?

Plan Manager is a Security Center component that supports mapping functionality for access control, video streaming and intrusion detection. It uses digital maps to represent the physical locations of monitored inputs such as cameras, doors, areas and zones.

Maps and floor plans can be organized into hierarchies, and into private, shared and favorite views with hyperlinks between maps (map links) to facilitate navigation.

Plan Manager provides fluid navigation capabilities for maps larger than 100,000 sq. ft. It can import vector-based PDFs, and displays maps from any GIS server compliant with the WMS 1.1 standard from OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium). This includes Microsoft Bing Maps, Navteq and others.

Plan Manager can also display custom objects that have been generated using KML (Keyhole Markup Language). This can be used for real-time tracking of vehicles and other objects on maps.

Plan Manager allows users to:

• View alarms detected on cameras, doors, areas and zones.• Lock and unlock doors and to see which doors are locked/unlocked.• View thumbnail video on camera mouseover.• Control PTZ cameras including field of view directly from maps.• See which doors and cameras are online/offline.• Acknowledge alarms.• Center maps on active alarm for quick location.• Use touch-screen devices.

How it works

How it works

Plan Manager is a Security Center component that displays area, intrusion area, zone, door, camera and hotspot objects on maps. Objects are layered on maps to provide easy access to the functions represented by those objects.

Security Center administrators use Plan Manager to:

• Structure maps and levels into logical hierarchies• Generate maps and floor plans • Populate maps with doors, cameras and hotspotsSecurity Center operators use Plan Manager to:

• Monitor the video feed from cameras • Manipulate PTZ cameras • Lock and unlock doors• Trigger actions and macros related to objects layered on the mapsMap data is stored on the Plan Manager server, while the client application is displayed within a Security Desk tile.

• Plan Manager server runs three different roles: Plan Manager Data Service accesses SQL Server. Plan Manager Map Generator generates PNG tiles from raster and vectorial PDFs. Plan Manager Tile Server is a Web server that displays the Plan Manager client in

Security Desk tiles.• Plan Manager uses the Security Desk client-side component which consists of the mon-

itoring functions that are displayed within Security Desk tiles.

Plan Manager supports partitions for floor plans, and privileges are inherited from Security Center (there is no need to configure security for users). Administrators are not limited by partitions, and can see all plans.

User Interface overview

User Interface overview

Maps and video feeds are displayed in client tiles in the Security Desk Monitoring tab. Once Plan Manager has been configured, you will use the client side of the application to layer object information on the maps that are displayed in those client tiles.

User privileges are inherited from Security Center. Those privileges determine which functions are available to the user. For the purposes of this manual, all functions that are available to an Admin user are described. The user interface consists of the following:

• Map configuration task within Security Desk• Plan Manager client which is displayed in a tile in Security Desk

Map configurationThe Map configuration task is used to import maps and floor plans to the Plan Manager database, and to organize those maps into structures. This tab consists of six more tabs:

• Manage servers• Import Floor plan• Manage maps• Add a WMS• Import KML• Upgrade Plan Manager

System requirements

System requirements

This section describes the software requirements, and hard disk, memory, and CPU requirements. Since these requirements vary with the size of the map, this document uses small, medium, and large maps as the benchmarks for specifying hardware requirements.

This section includes the following topics:

• "Software requirements" on page 17• "Server hardware requirements" on page 17• "Client hardware requirements" on page 18

Software requirementsSecurity Center is OS version independent as it runs on top of the Microsoft .NET framework and does not use any unmanaged OS API calls.

Server hardware requirementsSecurity Center stores the map object data as polylines (streets), point objects (cities) and polygons (areas). This data is stored on the server side and storage capacity varies according to the size of the maps. For example, the medium-sized plan(s) of a building can store up to 4,500 objects while the large map of a city can store up to 150,000 objects.

Component Operating system requirement

Plan Manager Server • Windows 32 bit: Windows 7/2008/2008R2• Windows 64 bit: Windows 7/2008/2008R2

Plan Manager Client • Windows 32 bit: Windows 7• Windows 64 bit: Windows 7

System requirements

Client hardware requirementsSecurity Center client is designed to use “free CPU” and should not slow down the video stream. However, if you do not have enough free CPU resources, map navigation may be slower. Security Desk can make intensive use of the CPU and needs a powerful graphics card if you want to show several video streams at the same time. Since Security Center client runs within Genetec Security Desk, the hardware should be able to handle the requirements of both systems.

The Plan Manager 10.0 client hardware requirements are as follows:

Item Requirement

CPU • Minimum: Core 2 duo 3.5 GHz• Recommended: Core i7 3 GHz

RAM • Minimum: 2 GB• Recommended: 4 GB

Disk space Security Center only caches some data on the client side and does not need any large storage on the client. Minimum required disk space:• Building (Medium): 15 MB• City (Medium): 50 MB
