Dear Fellow Membership Promotion Chair, Vice Chair/Co-Chair, Membership Committee:
Thank you for your sincere efforts for increasing membership. We are already in second half of the
chapter year. With your efforts I am confident each chapter can reach goal of 2% net growth.
This month major emphasis is to increase new member enrolment and reduce delinquencies.
Below is region IV activity summary.
I would like to thank congratulate for following Chapter Chair & Co-Chair:
1. South Carolina Chapter for ranking number 1 for Net Positive Growth.
2. South Carolina Chapter for reducing percentage Delinquents. Net growth is negative, but I am
confident that you will do better in coming month.
3. Atlanta Chapter for first to highest PAOE points.
4. Charleston for ranking number 1 for highest %New member recruitment.
Following activities I would like you to do this month:
1. Update your PAOE points. If you have not started, open up ASHRAE website and enter your
points.
2. Calling campaign for getting new members.
3. Calling campaign for reducing members delinquent list. Your list is small. With the help of your
membership committee, you can reduce the list.
4. Let me know when will be your Chapter Membership promotion night for this year. Please note
that you require to have two membership promotion night within society year.

Charleston charlestonashraechapter.wildapricot.org We had a great time at the Charleston Joint Engineer’s Council Banquet on February 16th and an outstanding time was had by all members and family at the Stingray’s hockey game in late Janu-ary, and a behind the scenes tour of the ice making secrets of the North Charleston Coliseum. Our latest event was a double meeting on Tuesday, March 9th with a Lunch meeting in Charleston and a Dinner meeting in N. Myrtle Beach for our Myrtle Beach Section and we invited the Wilming-ton Section to join us but I guess they are too busy, next time we will not have to drive so far. But thanks Megan Rooney for setting up two great programs in one day and an outstanding perfor-mance by our Region IV DL Hoy Bohanon, PE for giving two great and pertinent ASHRAE and Ener-gy Conservation presentations with the topics of BeQ and Retro-Commissioning they were of great value for all that attended. On May 6th we will be holding our Spring Golfing event and Fund Raiser at the Infamous Charles-ton Muni, this is the one you do not want to miss. Please contact myself or Chris Constantine if you would like to attend or maybe just make a little Hole Sponsor Donation, it is for a good cause.

Southern Piedmont www.spashrae.com Spring is now upon us and we are all looking forward to warmer weather and vacation season. As part of that we have a group sustainability project planned in conjunction with the Charlotte Meck-lenburg Parks & Rec Department, our Chapter Members, and our Student Chapter at Rowan Cabarrus Community College to support getting the park ready for summer. We are looking forward to a great turn-out of Volunteers to support the local communi-ty with park maintenance and clean-up. We also have two fundrais-ing events planned. First we have a spring golf outing and next we are getting together for a skeet shoot. Great ways to raise research dollars while networking and team building.
Triangle www.triangleashrae.com On February 11, 2016 the Triangle Chapter toured the James B. Hunt Library on the NSCU campus. Nearly 60 ASHRAE members including several YEA members toured the facility that has won nu-merous awards including the 2003 “Library of the Future Award”. The tour included a visit to the central plant. Afterwards a Brewery Tour of the Trophy Brewing Company occurred with approximately 25 mem-bers attending. Trophy is a new production facility located near downtown Raleigh. The March 9th Chapter meeting featured ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer, Chris Mathis, President of MC2 – Mathis Consulting Company. As a 30 year active member, participant, and consultant to numerous ASHRAE initiatives and guidelines, including ASHRAE 90.1 and 189.1, Chris presented an excellent program on “How Long Will it Last? Addressing the Challenge of Sustainability.” This meeting was also our second Resource Promotion themed night and Past Presidents Night. John Quiocho, RP Chair discussed how all benefit from ASHRAE, thanked the chapter donors, and
encouraged participation in the numerous spring events. Greg Mills, Historian Chair presented a brief history of the chapter and recognized and thanked all the Past Presidents whom were in attendance at his meeting. ASHRAE Treasurer, Bjarne W. Olesen, PH.D, Professor, Technical University of Den-mark will visit April 20, 2016 and present “The European Approach To Decrease Ener-gy Consumption in Buildings” to the Triangle Chapter. This is a much anticipated event. See photos from Triangle’s events in the sidebar.

To All Delegates, Alternates and Chapter Historians:
Ok, I know it’s only March, but it is still a good time to think about doing a little
research on who in your chapter should be getting an honor or an award. All you
Presidents (Delegate) and Vice-President or President elect (Alternate) for the
Chapter Regional Conference (CRC) need to get your Chapter Historian to look into
this so there isn’t as much work to do right before our August CRC here in Atlanta
(August 11-13).
Member Services at headquarters can supply you with a link to the Honors and
Awards roster for each chapter. Review this for missing people for Chapter Ser-
vice Awards, Regional Awards of Merit, Distinguished Service Awards and Excep-
tional Service Awards. All of these awards have a points sheet which can be
found on the History webpage on ASHRAE.org. The real reason this needs to start
now is that each candidate needs to update their bio on the website to be sure it’s
current and accurate. The points sheets have to match the bio or HQ will reject
them. There needs to be cooperation between the nominee and the nominators in
filling in the sheet.
All Chapter Historians are tasked to be part of your Honors & Awards Committee,
even if you don’t have a formal Committee as such. Doing the ground work now
will take the stress off of the Delegate and Alternate when CRC comes around.
If anyone needs help locating any of the information needed, feel free to contact
me by email or phone and I’ll be glad to walk you through it.

THE RUDY
The Rudy Ferguson award was established by Barney Burroughs, the DRC in 1982 in recognition of Rudy’s contributions
and service to ASHRAE and the community and to honor his passing. Rudy was a true advocate of ASHRAE. The award is
presented to the most outstanding chapter in our region and is greatly prized, the criteria is set by the current DRC and the
qualifications remain high. It is a true honor to receive this award.
Rudy worked for the McKnight Mechanical Engineering firm in Charlotte, NC and L.R. Gorrell, before forming Ferguson-
Sullivan. He was known as a master of building relationships. Rudy was a member of the Masonic Fraternity and an avid
supporter of the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Rudy was president of the Southern Piedmont chapter in 1980-81 and passed away on March 22, 1982 at only 38 years
old.
