The list contains both documents handed in by students as well as text snippets and documents directly uploaded by you.

The uploaded text is displayed with information about the time it was received, the name of the file, and the sender.

The color codes to the left of the document name indicate the level of overlap UrkUND has detected. The scale goes from green to yellow to red to black where green is no or an insignificant amount of overlap and black indicates a total or near total overlap in the document.

To the left of the color codes, a blue or greyed out eye symbol indicates whether you have previously viewed the document analysis. if the eye symbol is greyed out, you have not yet viewed the document analysis. if a question mark is displayed, instead of a color code, the document has not yet been analyzed.

please note that UrkUND analysis may take up to 24 hours, depending on the current load on the system. Usually, however, analysis takes only a few hours.

When the analysis of a document is completed, you are able to view the analysis results by clicking the icon in the column to the far right.

To upload text snippets or documents, go to ‘search’ in the menu. highlight and copy the block of text you wish to control, then paste the text into the text field in URKUND. You have the option to also provide metadata in the form of a title, an author, and a comment. When ready, click ‘submit’.

if you would like to upload an entire file instead, choose ‘File’ by clicking on the ‘File’ radio button. Click browse and select the file you wish to upload. as when uploading text snippets, you have the option to provide metadata. When ready, click ‘Upload’.

In both cases, URKUND will send an email confirmation to the email addresses registered to your account when the document has been received by the system.

When using urkund’s upload feature, please note that there is a 2 MB size limit for each file you wish to upload. It is therefore recommended to upload via email instead. Instructions on how to upload via email are available on the main page.

To view the analysis results, go to ‘list’ in the menu.

The analysis result window is divided into three parts. The metadata for the file is displayed in the top left of the window. The comparison is shown in the bottom half of the window and finally the sources of the comparison is displayed in the top right of the window.

On the left of the comparison you see the content of the uploaded document. if an overlap is detected, this text is highlighted. The source of the overlap and the overlapping text is displayed on the right.

There are a number of ways UrkUND can help you determine the relevance of a detected overlap. You are able to toggle quote highlighting by clicking the highlight quotes button at the top left of the comparison display.

You are also able to toggle which sources you would like to base the comparison on. Toggle sources on/off by clicking the checkbox next to them in the sources list in the top right of the screen. This is useful if for instance a student has uploaded two copies or versions of the same document to UrkUND.

please note that UrkUND does not take into account the reference lists of documents when detecting overlap. also note that UrkUND merely detects overlap between the analysed document and UrkUND’s sources - Overlap does not necessarily indicate plagiarism in the document. To assess whether plagiarism is indeed present, the document and the analysis must be thoroughly reviewed.

This guide has provided you with a basic introduction to viewing the results of campusNet’s automatic plagiarism check via UrkUND. For further info on plagiarism checks and other related subjects, please visit the UrkUND support site at:
