VERY SUCCESSFUL CURRICULUM INFORMATION SESSIONS It was great to have so many parents attend the curriculum information sessions presented by our teachers last Tuesday evening. Many parents commented to me on how appreciative they were to have the opportunity to learn more about their child’s teaching and learning program and the different routines of their school day. Thank you to the teachers of each year level for providing such professional and insightful curriculum information presentations to our parent community. TEACHER PROFESSIONAL LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT Throughout the year, you will notice that your child may not have their classroom teacher. Sometimes it may be due to illness or a personal matters, however, on numerous occasions they are attending workshops to increase their skills and knowledge in particular areas that they have an interest in with regards to education, and sometimes it is a whole school strategy/program that will benefit all children. So far to date we have had a number of teachers participate in the following workshops - Project Based Learning; SRC; and Smart Spelling.

SAFETY DRILL REHEARSAL Once each term the whole school rehearses a different safety drill as part of our Emergency Management Plan. On April 1st, we will be holding the first of our safety drills. The whole school will participate in an evacuation drill. Any adults on the premises at that time will be required to participate in the evacuation drill as well. OPEN DAY FOR PROSPECTIVE FAMILIES Our Open Day will take place on Tuesday 31st March from 9:45am – 10:45am. This is an opportunity for all interested families to come along and see the dynamic teaching and learning that occurs in our learning space every day. If you have any friends or family members who are in-area and will be or are interested in sending their child/ren to our school for 2021, please pass this invite on to them.

If you have an arty flair or you are a graphic designer, do I have the project for you? I don’t want to give too much away, but I have planned two art projects that I would like to take place with the help of our talented parents/carers/friends/families. If you are interested, could you please call me to discuss.

HELPING YOUR CHILD WITH LITERACY AND NUMERACY AT HOME On Wednesday 11th March at 1:45pm in the Learning Hub, I will be leading a workshop for parents on a document that has been published by the Department of Education called Helping Your Child with Literacy and Numeracy at Home. I do have a number of copies of this publication that I will be handing out at this session. It is aimed at Kindy parents/carers however, I am inviting any parent/carer who may be interested in knowing more about how they can help their child at home to come along. The workshop will be hands-on whereby you will be asked to participate in some learning experiences that your child is all too familiar with, as well as time to discuss any issues or concerns regarding these two key learning areas Also, if you go to the Department of Education and Training (DET) website you will find parent pages that include tips on how to help build your child’s skills in speaking and listening, reading, writing and numeracy along with lots of other information for parents about education, health and schools. https://www.education.vic.gov.au/parents/Pages/school-age.aspx Yours in partnership, Mary Roche Principal

Every morning, all children are to put their bags in the allocated areas and then go onto the concrete area where the teachers are supervising

If it is raining in the morning, children will go under the COLAS until 8:30am when their teacher will collect them.

If it is raining in the afternoon, please collect your child from their classroom when the bell has sounded.

ADULTS ARE NOT TO WALK AROUND THE SCHOOL GROUNDS DURING SCHOOL HOURS WITHOUT SIGNING IN AT THE FRONT OFFICE FIRST.

There is a designated area just after the crossing outside our school that is sign posted as ‘No Parking’. This is known as the ‘Kiss and Drop’ area. The intention is that the only passengers that get out of the car are the children that go to PTPS. Once the driver gets out of their car it is seen by the police as parking and you may be fined. Please consider the safety of others when dropping off and collecting your children, as a number of our parents are making decisions that are putting our precious children’s safety in jeopardy.

National Young Leaders Day

On Monday, 2nd March, the six leaders caught the Sydney Metro to Chatswood and then caught a train to Town Hall Station where we walked to the International Convention Centre at Darling Harbour. We kicked off the day with some dancing and funky music led by Dance Curriculum. They then taught us a really cool dance called learning is fun! We had some inspiring speakers come on stage and tell us about their inspiring lives. Some of those people were John Coutis, Erin Molan, Bianca Chatsfield and Rove McManus.

There were pins, tote bags and one of Rove’s books called Rocky Lobstar that you could purchase. Chelsea, Daniel, Riley, Faith and Jason all voted Maddy to do an inflatable lobster challenge in which we came second. On the long walk back to Town Hall, it was so hot that we stopped to get slushies, ice-creams and lollies for the trip back home. What a great day!!!! Thanks Mrs Pendleton for taking us.

Sporting News Please refer to the school website for information regarding PSSA procedures concerning children trialling for different sports on offer. You will also find information regarding the procedures that are followed when calculating our sporting champions at the end of the year. Our school was fortunate enough to receive a grant from Sporting Schools for $2900. We have used this money to purchase a differentiated hockey program for grades K-6 and to purchase modified hockey equipment to support the program for all ages and abilities. We are very excited to get started!

I had the pleasure of attending the zone swimming carnival with 24 students and their wonderful parents. Our students represented our school with exemplary behaviour, cheered each other on in the pool and displayed great sportsmanship to other competitors. Congratulations to everyone that attended and to the ten students who were successful in moving forward to represent the Hawkesbury District at the upcoming regional carnival: Chelsea, Addison, Lily, Gabrielle, Kirra, Tyler, Liam, Nicolas and Eric.

A very big congratulations to Lucas Luttrell who represented Australia at the International Judo Competition at Sydney Olympic Park 2 weeks ago. He was awarded the gold medal in the under 50kg division. An amazing achievement Lucas, we are so proud of you!

We have recently worked with a representative from the AFL who ran AFL training sessions with Stage 3 students. The students had a lot of fun and developed many new skills. We are excited to be taking 2 teams to the Paul Kelly Cup Tournament at Bensons lane on Tuesday 11th March. Lastly, I would like to acknowledge each and every one of our PTPS students who have participated in events or competitions and tried out for sporting teams. Whatever the outcome, we are proud of you for your effort and commend you on your enthusiasm and commitment to sport. We wish all of our athletes that are continuing on to represent our Hawkesbury zone, the best of luck in their upcoming competitions and events. Ms Mangion Sports Coordinator Harmony Day Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Day. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. Students at Pitt Town can choose to wear something orange on 20th March to show their support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia. This day will also include the “Bullying No Way” discussion. This does not mean that students wear full mufti on the day, but that they may simply wear an orange accessory on the day with their school uniform. Some suggestions include orange hair ties, ribbons, socks, shoelaces or T shirt.
