PROCEDURE NO. PTD-DGS-127 PAGE OF 1 3 PROCESS TECHNOLOGY PROCEDURES PREPARED BY Edited from existing doc by J.R. Barnhart DATE April 30, 2000 DEPARTMENT: PROCESS ENGINEERING APPROVED BY JRB SUBJECT: PIPING SPECIALTY ITEM DESIGN GUIDE REVISION DATE 11/08/02 REV. 1  1.0 SCOPE This design guide defines the method for establishing the requiremen ts for items specified by the piping materials group that are not included in the piping material specification. These items are called piping specialty (SP) items. 2.0 RESPONSIBILITY The process engineer identifies and describes items on the piping and instrumentation diagram (P&I D) that are not in the piping material specifications. The piping materials engineer numbers, tracks, and completes information about an item and writes th e specification. Some r outine items are completely spec ified by the piping materials engineer; however, most items shall have the process information described by the mechanical process section. 3.0 PROCEDURE The process engineer reviews the P&IDs to identify items that are not shown in the piping materia l spe cif ications. If the ite m can be add ed to the speci ficati on, the proce ss engineer will check with the piping materials group; otherwise, the Piping Specialty Item Process Data Shee t, should be filled out as follows: 1. Requi red infor mat ion describes wh ere the item app ears on the dra win gs, the person originating the request, and othe r relevant informatio n. This section should be completely filled out by the originator. 2. The body of the form contain s typic al data for SP it ems, but it is not compreh ensi ve. Add ition al infor mati on should be added under note s at the bottom of the form. 3. The "not es" spac e on the form sho uld cont ain informatio n not shown in the tab le body . Items might inclu de bore size, lockin g device, oper ator type , applicab le code , actu ator fluid pres sure, fires afe, tight shu toff , cont amin ant size /con dition , design differential pressure, gasket type, or seal type. The completed form should be transmitted to the piping materials group for completion of the SP items specification.
