Amisha Herd, class of 2018, definitely left her mark at Marietta College. It shows through the many accolades she has received, including the most recent being the NCAA Woman of the Year in the Ohio Athletic Confer- ence. This award not only takes into consideration the impact the particular athlete had on the team’s success, but also the leadership and servitude the athlete provid- ed. Herd was involved in many service projects through women’s basketball program such as cleaning a local women’s shelter, reading to elementary school children, and helping with Special Olympics. On the court, she was Marietta’s second ever All-American and served as a team captain. Head coach Kole Vivian believes Herd was key to how far this program has come over the years. "Amisha was a huge factor in us winning our first OAC title this past season and a driving force in our program the last four years," said Coach Vivian. In this Issue: 1. Herd OAC WOY 2. Herd Honored as NCAA

Woman of the Year in OAC

Pioneer Press -Marietta College Women’s Basketball Monthly Newsletter September 2018

This season, our team is traveling to Florida to play in a tournament over Christmas break!

We will be in Fort Lauderdale from December 18th through December 22nd, playing some

very good competition from Iowa in the teams of Simpson College and Coe College. Along

with playing two games, we will also be sure to get in some beach time since our team loves

the sun!

Every few years our program takes a big trip to a place out of state or out of the country. It is

fun to be able to experience different cultures, food and weather, all the while playing the

game we love. Senior Jo Herd-Middlebrooks

had this to say about the upcoming opportuni-

ty: “I’ve been waiting since my freshman year

to go on this trip! I can’t wait to go ball out

with my squad in Florida and get some sun

while Ohio is getting snow!”

Foster Parent Gathering

Our foster parents are one of the many reasons our team gets so much support when playing basketball at Marietta College. The foster parents consist of faculty and staff at Marietta College as well as members of the Marietta community who have been following the basketball programs for a long time. They are a great resource for team when they are away from home and offer our team a ton of sup-port. Foster parents are there for our team in a number of ways, including cheering them on at games, giving them advice to the best places to eat around town, and can even provide them an occasional home cooked meal.

The relationships our players have with their foster parents go on after their four years at Marietta College. Many will get invited to graduations, weddings, and huge life events in their post graduation life. Our athletes grow very close to their foster parents and we are very blessed to have them as an extra line of support!
