WHAT’S FOR LUNCH?
FALL FESTIVAL
Due to recent flooding to our area from Hurricane Harvey, we want to give our families, community, and businesses time to heal and refurbish! Therefore, we are canceling the Fall Festival (School Carnival) scheduled for October 21. A Spring Carnival is in the planning phase as we know our students look forward to this special event! More details to come later!

DISMISSAL TIME
We appreciate your patience at dismissal time as we are hosting displaced employees from the ISC building which was flooded during Hurricane Harvey.
To expedite dismissal time, please consider carpooling (three or more students) for pickup in the carpool lane by the flagpole, meeting your child on Pine Cup & Atascocita Pines Drive as a walker, or picking up your child in the car rider line off West Lake Houston. If you choose to carpool, please pick up a carpool plack for each vehicle from the front office. Parking is limited.
For the safety of our students, students are not permitted to cross into the faculty parking lot for pick up without adult supervision.
Thank you for your patience as we support our HumbleISD community during this recovery time. #HumbleisdStrong

GT IDENTIFICATION PROCESS
All campuses in Humble ISD provide screening, identification,
and services for Gifted and Talented students. In order for a
student to be identified as Gifted and Talented (GT) in Humble
ISD, data from several quantitative and qualitative criteria are
collected over a four-week period to identify students who
exhibit potential and/or perform at levels significantly beyond
the norm in areas of superior cognitive ability and/or specific
academic achievement.

PANThER PERK STORE It’s time for our little Panthers to start spending their hard earned Panther Perks. Panther Perks are tickets that students earn and can spend for rewards at our Panther Perk Store every other week. For our Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students, the Panther Perk cart visits their classroom. Our students in 3rd, 4th and 5th graders have the opportunity to visit our store in the front foyer between 7:30am – 8am. Our first Panther Perk store last week was a huge success! As a reminder, all Panther Perks must have the student’s name prior to making any purchases. We look forward to our next Panther Perk Store visit on Thursday, October 5th!

Free Meals Extended Humble ISD is pleased to inform you that at noon on Thursday, Sept. 28, the Texas Department of Agriculture announced that it will extended free breakfast and lunch meals to all Humble ISD students through October 31. Families are not required to fill out a free and reduced price meal application for their students to receive free meals through October 31. The free meals apply to the traditional breakfast and lunch menu, and not a la carte items. To receive free/reduced meals after October 31, a family must submit an application and meet program qualifications.
Parents! One of this year’s main fundraisers is the Boosterthon Fun Run! It’s a 9-day program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on 1/8/2018. Then families will have time to get pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps), and we’ll celebrate at the Fun Run on 1/18/18. With our big goal to raise funds for playground canopy and technology, the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon will power our Fun Run and make it more profitable, easy, and fun. Students will experience an amazing character theme, BACKYARD BOX OFFICE! It’s a movie theme all about making a difference by getting into character. Our students will learn from five REAL kid difference-makers. From inventors, to world-class speakers, to business owners, to world-record holders, these five kids will inspire our students to practice the five “Character Acts” and make a difference in our community. Donations will go toward playground canopy and technology and to the entire 9-day experience. So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on your student at the Fun Run! Thank you for your support!

10 Steps to Your Healthiest School Year Ever
1. Start off strong with a healthy breakfast. A good breakfast provides energy and will help keep you alert and attentive in class. Highly sugared foods leave you feeling tired soon after eating. 2. Drink plenty of water. Water is the best fluid to stay hydrated without the added sugar found in some juice and soft drinks. 3. Don’t forget to wash your hands often. Keep hands away from your face, mouth, and nose where germs can enter your body.
4. Boost your immune system. Get plenty of sleep, talk to your doctor about taking a multiple vitamin, and eat colorful fruits and vegetables every day. Think variety and rainbow colors! 5. Eat a nutritious and yummy lunch. Choose foods from all the food groups. Different food groups supply our bodies with energy to think, move, and grow. 6. Cut back on sugar and salty snacks. Limit sodas, sport drinks, candy, chips, and ice cream – they add on extra calories, can harm your teeth, and leave you feeling tired and weak. 7. Enhance your brain performance. Exercise, play memory games, do crossword puzzles, and eat brain foods like berries, cold water fish, and nuts. Just say “NO” to fast food and enjoy a home cooked meal together at least four nights a week. 8. Get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. Exercise helps our bodies to be strong, flexible, and resilient. 9. Do your homework every day after school. It’s so important to be prepared! 10. Turn off the TV and video games at least one hour prior to bedtime. Take time to relax, take a bath or shower, brush your teeth, and pack up for the morning – and still get to bed by 8:30pm!
Let’s all have a healthy school year!
