Pinellas County Government’s Clearwater District Chiller Plant began operation in early March after a 13-month construction

process.

The plant components consist of 3 Trane Centravacs, 24 Calmac Ice Tanks, 3 Marley Cooling Towers, 6 Grundfos pumps, and Trane Tracer Automation System. The plant will

serve the County’s 7 Clearwater buildings and eliminate the need to service and/or replace multiple aging and inefficient chillers that currently serve those locations.

Engineering Matrix is the Project’s Mechanical Engineer, BCH Mechanical and B & I Contractors share the mechanical contracting work and Ajax is the General Contractor.

TBT personnel reached deep into their own pockets in 2014 and delivered significant contributions to both the 2014 Heart Association and the United Way fundraising campaigns.

Tampa Bay Trane Gives Back

Jay Allison, President of Tampa Bay Trane has served for the past four years on the Leadership Board of the Heart Walk. Tampa Bay Trane is proud of its commitment of time and treasure to these and other community events.

Tampa Bay Trane Associates raised $50,214 to benefit the United Way.

Jeans on Friday, TBT’s traditional Ping Pong Tournament, a raffle for a paid-day-off and a Texas Hold-em Poker tournament helped to stimulate interest in this year’s Campaign. Those contributing over a given threshold amount were named to the Reuben Trane Society in honor of Trane’s founder and were treated to a party in their honor at the home of Doug & Maureen Cohn.

Tampa Bay Trane’s extraordinary contributions to the 2014 United Way campaign earned our company the designation as one of the area’s Top 100 Most Generous Workplaces.

Tampa Bay Trane threw its support behind the American Heart Association’s promotion of a ‘Heart-Healthy’ lifestyle. The Company promoted low-calorie menus, annual physical checkups, and regular aerobic exercise.

As a wrap-up to these activities, over 75 TBT Associates and their families participated in the November 8th 3-mile walk held at Raymond James Stadium, attended by over 30,000 members of large and small companies throughout the Bay Area – all focused on encouraging family and friends to eat right, get plenty of exercise and sleep.

West Coast of Florida’s second Trane RTAE Air Cooled Chiller factory, equipped with a Full Sound Package, was put on line during the first

week of January 2015 and exceeded all preconceived notions as to its operational noise levels . After TBT techs completed the start-up procedures and had the machine on line, they called the Ritz Carlton’s Beach Resort Condominium Owner’s Rep to the chiller’s location to inspect the finished project - his first words were – “Is it really running?”

The good news for the condominium residents, who suffered for many years with the alternating squealing

and roaring sounds of a competitor’s machines, was that the RTAE was indeed running . The RTAE is available in sizes from 150 to 300 tons and wins rave notices for several reasons; 1) incredible low sound levels, 2) Incredible high efficiency, and 3) Incredible Trane quality . The RTAE chiller is 44% more efficient than ASHRAE Minimum Part Load Efficiency and the chiller’s energy savings over other chillers can pay for the additional first cost premium in a few years .

Jim Sparling is retiring after 28 years as a sales engineer with Tampa Bay Trane . Jim is a graduate of Bradley University in Peoria, IL where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering .

Jim joined Trane after graduation and served in various capacities with Trane’s Consumer Product’s Division, which was then responsible for residential and light commercial product marketing . Jim left Trane from 1977 through 1985 when we served as Vice President of Sales and Operations for A-1 Air Conditioning in Lakeland, Florida .

Jim joined Tampa Bay Trane as a Sales Engineer in 1986 and has had 28 years of distinguished service, having been named as a Quota Breaker 12 times, an Eagle Award winner 4 times, as the NSS Salesman of the Year 4 times and to Trane’s prestigious TOP 10 Club 4 times .

Jim will be joining TBT’s Inside Sales Group but on a shortened schedule working only Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week .
