I’m sure that we know someone directly affected not only by the fires but also the drought that has brought the farming districts to its knees. I’m sure that you all know Stephen Dawkin’s, the head Polymers teacher at TAFE. Stephen and wife Tracy had recently all but relocated down the coast to Cobargo but sadly they were hit by the fires that ravaged the town and basically lost everything! Speaking with Stephen, he is focused on moving forward and getting their lives settled back into a normal routine, which may take some time. Stephen was grateful of the support that was given to them by family, friends and industry and in his words was really humbled by everyone’s generosity! If there can be any positives to come out of such a devastating event, it’s the resilience of the people affected and the outpouring of support from the country and abroad to all those in need at this time! There is no doubt that we live in a country that is quite diverse with nature often dealing out it’s harshest blows at times, from flood to fire, from Cyclones to hail, from thunderstorms to dust storms, but all of this makes us all quite unique and tough and resilient folks. On an industry front, this year brings again the PIMA charity Golf Day to be held at Bankstown Golf Club on Friday the 8 th of May so please save the date. Please consider having your own team entered as it’s a great opportunity in playing alongside customers, suppliers or even family, so please enter early when the forms come out and we hope that our industry can continue to support this wonderful event. We are also looking to hold the introduction to plastics course and the technical data sheet course. If you think that you have any staff that you may to send along then please reach out and advise us on your interest or simply keep an eye out on the flyers. PIMA with support of the NSW Business Chamber has produced a video in effort to showcase the plastics industry and jobs that can filled within the industry. This video will be used to promote the industry to Schools, it’s on the PIMA and Skill’s road website and is also with 1300 Apprentice. We hope to capture more young people looking to gain apprenticeships in our industry. Please keep an eye out on the future newsletters and flyers informing you of what is coming up. I wish everyone a strong and successful year ahead. Kindest regards, Grahame Aston PIMA President. January 2020 Newsletter PIMA NEWSLETTER

Real-Time profile Extrusion Optimisation Greiner Extrusion received a overwhelming response from extrusion industry professionals at the launch and ongoing live demonstrations of Digi.Line Extrusion 4.0 producing a hollow chamber profile at their booth at last week’s triennial plastics manufacturing showcase, K-Fair in Dusseldorf Germany. Representing a significant technology breakthrough for profile production, Digi.Line Extrusion 4.0 controls the extrusion process from the tooling die to the stacking table digitally optimizing in real time the production process. Digi.Line minimizes material consumption and increases output by ensuring error-free reproduction of all process parameters. Key features are:

• Digi.Control with 15” HMI inter-connects and controls all line components for complete reproducibility of process parameters and fast start-ups.

• Flow.Matic ensures automatic control of full profile sections in conjunction with Digi.Tank which controls water level, flow rates and vacuum settings.

• ShapeMatic ensures exact geometry is maintained of the profile shape.

• DigiScale in conjunction with Weigh.Matic automates profile weight optimization. The combined benefits of Digi.Line optimization on a typical PVC hollow chamber window profile weighing 1.2kg/m at 350kg/hr output can be up to €125,000 per annum savings. Greiner Extrusion is the worlds leading supplier of extrusion lines, tooling and turnkey plants for profile extrusion, whose core competency is process expertise in profile extrusion – development, design, manufacture and process optimization of tooling and extrusion lines.
