Greengs Pilots,
The Pilot Club of the Halifax Area is off and running full of
enthusiasm and excitement because our Plans of Work has been
approved by the membership and we are eager to begin our
projects. We begin our fund raising efforts with the Chinese
Aucon on August 28. We have collected some very interesng
items like a service for eight of Remington China in the Red Sea
Pa)ern a current retail value of $392. Four place se.ngs of gold
flatware, glass and silver collecbles along with some other fun
items just to menon a few of what we have collected so far. We
could use some addional items the more the merrier means “$”
so if you have something you would like to donate you can call
Cindy Hurley for a pickup or bring it with you to the meeng on
August 14.
The business meeng on August 14 will be fun and a summer
change for us. The construcon schedule at the Palme)o Club
makes it necessary for us to meet elsewhere and we will meet
that day at the Central Bapst Church meeng hall for the
business meeng. Check out the menu listed and locaon info. in
the meeng block, further on in the Breeze.
We will hear the Convenon reports, award perfect a)endance
cerficates and do what we most look forward to doing, make
our first 2012-2013 donaon. The Star Shelter’s children’s school
supply program will be the recipient of that donaon.
August is o:en a busy travel month, school preparaons and
more so I would like to remind you that I am the current Lunch
Coordinator, please let me know if you will not be able to make a
meeng. Enjoy the remainder of the summer, enjoy being a Pilot
and enjoy each other, for it is the joy of what we do that makes a
Pilot smile.

Six brain-smart choices you can start making right now to
begin revving up your daily recall and lowering your risk for
serious memory problems. Make these part of your daily life.
1) Take a Walk
2) Maintain a healthy weight
3) Get 8 hours of sleep
4) Play a computer game against the clock
5) Practice using memory tools
6) Look for activities out of your comfort zone
60 SECONDS TO SANITY
For those crazed, heart-racing moments,
breathing deeply for a minute or so can
lower your stress level. But to decrease
overall anxiety and boost confidence,
prac@ce daily 15 to 20 minutes (start with 10 and
work your way up). Health experts at Harvard
suggest three different methods.
1) Take a Simple Break, take normal breaths
followed by slow, deep breaths, leRng air come
through your nose to fill your lower belly.
2) Put your hand under your belly bu)on and
breathe deeply, feeling your hand raise each
@me.
3) Close your eyes and imagine that each inhale
washes relaxa@on into your body, saying to
yourself, “Breathe in peace and calm” and as
you breathe out, say to yourself, “Breathe out
tension and anxiety”
We have started the 2012-13 year off with a bang, we look
forward to many more new member installations. Have you invited someone to come with you to check out of wonderful club?
Out August program 8/28 meeting will be our Annual
Chinese Auction, what a perfect time to invite a friend to
check us out! Diane Dunn

Flying across the country is always an experience. Approximately 800 Pilots
converging on Las Vegas for the Pilot Interna@onal Founda@on Conven@on made it all
the more exci@ng. And there was no rest for the weary!
Cindy and I a)ended Wednesday aGernoon’s session to brief us about what to
expect as “First Timers”. We ran back to have our picture taken with President
Winnie. AGer checking on Shirley’s Silent Auc@on, we grabbed our great green shirts
for the Opening Ceremony where we were entertained by Elvis (REALLY!).
Thursday morning found us in sessions devoted to Registra@on Reports, Conven@on Rules,
Elec@ons of PI Treasurer and Director (both from Alabama!), and MUCH by-law and budget
discussion. Two highlights of the day were the Keynote address by Lisa Earle McLeod and our Florida
District mee@ng. Ms. McLeod focused on the sense of noble purpose that mo@vates us as Pilots.
Friday included MORE by-law and budget discussion. The budget was passed by the delegates at
the end of the day. My sessions were devoted to applying for and geRng grants. The President’s
Luncheon was lovely, and we enjoyed the singing of Della Reese from the Bahamas District. We heard
from the Grants and Scholarship Commi)ees aGer lunch, and enjoyed presenta@ons by
Mollie Sheppard of Aubrey’s Angels, Chief Gene Saunders of Project Lifesaver, and Ann
Boriskie, Director of the Brain Injury Peer Visitor Associa@on.
Barbie Lauver from the Achievement Academy, a program for individuals with high
func@oning Asperger’s Syndrome, spoke to us Saturday morning. So did Meghan Francis,
who thanks to PIF scholarships, graduated debt-free from college. One of my personal highlights was
an excellent presenta@on by Dr. Sandra Peterson, a Pilot and Neurologist who spoke about
Alzheimer’s and the current posi@ve trends with the disease. There was another grant related session
for me, the President’s Address, Presenta@on of new Governors, and the announcement of 2013
Conference will be in New Orleans and 2014 Conference will be in Chicago.
Florida Pilots assisted with the decora@on of the dining room for the Installa@on Banquet. AGer the
Banquet, the room was broken down by the FLORIDA Pilots. And Sunday, we all scurried home via
trains, planes, and automobiles. Exhaus@ng? Absolutely! Fulfilling and informa@ve? You bet! But
most importantly, the ladies (and Co-Pilot men) could not have been more kind and gracious to this
newbie. I’m really glad I have a year to rest up for New Orleans!

Leanne Hansard chaired with the
help of Diane Dunn, the
President Elect Committee for
the Club Delegates to have their
pictures taken with
President Elect Winnie Brewer
who is from the Titusville Club,
all of the Florida Clubs took an
active role in the planning and
work details of the convention.
As a result, Wednesday morning
found Cindy and JoEllen
creating floral centerpieces for
the President’s Installation
Banquet on Saturday night.
Our own Shirley Pyle was Chairperson of the
Silent Aucon Commi)ee, Cindy Hurley and
Joelle Salce-Rogers were recruited to help
there. Our club donated a beauful acrylic
painng, courtesy of Karlene McConnell, a
local Ormond Beach arst. Donaons from all
over the world including Japan were received.
Our own Sweet Shirley was recognized by
2011-12 PI President Beverly Wilkes for her
generous donaons to the Pilot Foundaon.
Diane Dunn bid and won on a weeks vacaon
at the silent aucon to a North Georgia resort
which she will enjoy with her husband Sandy
for their 50th wedding anniversary August 18.

Sunshine Report
Sylivia Popowski is recovering
from her back surgery, she would
always welcome a Pilot sisters
visit, so give her a call.
Please keep her and all your Pilot Sisters in
your prayers, you may not know it but you
mean so much to each one of them.
If you know of a Pilot Sister in need
please e-mail or call.
Minnie Harris,
Sunshine Chair
Here we go again ~ Another great Pilot year has started. With our outstanding leadership and
superior members I am simply giddy with excitement. Each of
our members must be applauded for passing the Plans
of Work and Budget for 2012-2013 with only a couple of minor adjustments.
I am already mentally counting the funds we will be raising this year and knowing that each dollar raised will be used to further our mission. Just in
case you have not heard, the Pilot Club of the Halifax Area is the envy of Pilot
clubs all over the country.
Please remember to call the lunch coordinator on Friday before any meeting to cancel your lunch
reservation. At the July 24 meeting we had 8 lunches we had to pay for. This is
money lost to the club.
