Halifax is the first port of call on the great circle route crossing the Atlantic from North Europe and the Suez Canal to Canadian and USA markets. The terminal provides efficient and flexible routing options for cargo interests connecting Asia and Europe to the major cities in Eastern Canada and the US Midwest. The terminal is extending its main berth by 135m to 800m total length providing two deepwater berths, ice-free year-round, as well as one feeder berth. One new 24-wide Super Post-Panamax quay crane and two rubber tyred gantry cranes will complete the berth extension project in mid-2020.
