OBJECTIVES

The ultimate aspiration is to produce “Social Entrepreneurs”- professionals who areoriented to understand, evaluate, and monitor business works guided by ‘SocialResponsibility’ and ‘Pinoy Values.’

The various professional diplomas offered in the PIEMI School of Life Non-DegreePrograms aims to upgrade learners’ competence and excellence through the followingareas: (1) professional knowledge, (2) values and (3) skills among learners. The course willelicit the following areas during the coursework: (1) understand the field ofentrepreneurship and its variables (e.g. innovation, social entrepreneurship); (2) broadenone’s perspective to the players and business structures used by social entrepreneurs; (3)discuss and analyze the mechanics, tensions, and realities of starting and or managing asocial enterprise.

The various professional diplomas shall further examine the following elements whenlooking at social ventures or discussing social entrepreneurs: (1) Sustainability [sources offunds/ financial sustainability]; (2) Impact and Performance [impact of the enterprise/venture/ monitoring/ evaluation]; (3) Innovation [unique ideas/ traits of innovators]; (4)Development [impact to society] connecting these to Program Areas.

PEDAGOGY

The pedagogical approach of the various professional diplomas will employ a casemethod approach adapted from the Harvard Business School in Boston, USA. TheHarvard Case Method was known for its commitment to discussion-based learning usingcases drawn from real life business situations and decisions (HBS, MBA, 2016). The classdiscussions and focus group discussions (FGDs) will utilize transformative means ofinteraction between the discussant and the learners’ intellectual consciousnessreconciling theories and industry situations.
