Pickup in the Rain
One night, at 11:30 p.m. an older African American woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway trying to endure a lashing rain storm. Her car had broken down and she desperately needed a ride. Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car. A young white man stopped to help her, generally unheard of in those conflict-filled 1960′s. The
man took her to safety, helped her get assistance and put her into a taxicab.
She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a knock came on the man’s door. To his surprise, a giant console col-our TV was delivered to his home. A special note was attached. It read: “Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway the other night. The rain drenched not only my clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along. Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying husband’s bedside just before he passed away… God bless you for helping
me and unselfishly serving others.
Sincerely,
Mrs Nat King Cole.”
Dear Parents
The above story is a good example of the Good Samaritan Charism of our school which is to
help others in need. We encourage our students at all times to help others in need.
Our Inaugural Art Show is only a week away (next Friday, 14th June 2013) and excitement is
rising amongst the children for the Pyjama Movie night that will take place on the same night. We
are planning to feed the children their snack at 6.10pm and then start their movie either in the
Prep/1 classroom for P-3 or Yr 4/5 classroom for 4-7 by 6.30pm. If you intend to join us on the
evening, please return the reply slip if you have not already done so.
The school has obtained a Liquor Licence and will be selling Beer, Wine and Soft Drinks. Any
profit made from these sales will help pay for the Art Show materials and the balance of funds
will be donated to Leukaemia Foundation.
We are also holding a Gold Coin Donation Free Dress Day next Thursday(13/06/13) in aid of
Red Nose Day, with funds raised being donated to the SIDS foundation.
A correction from last week’s newsletter is that Jaeden Ruhle was competing in the Darling
Downs Tennis Trials as a member of the Southern Downs Team. Well done Jaeden.

WOOLWORTHS EARN AND LEARN STICKERS The Woolworths Earn and Learn promotion has started. As with last year, St Francis de Sales School has nominated the Mater Hospital Special School as the school we wish to support. This is a great way of supporting the sick children who have to attend this school while in hospital. This is an easy way of doing a fund raiser for them without families dipping their hands into their own pockets.
