Father’s Day is also a time to remember the incredible love our Father in heaven has for us. A love that created us into being. A love so great that He sent His only Son to redeem us. His love is greater than any fear or worry we have or any challenge or obstacle we may face, and so we should always remember we can turn to God and He will welcome us with open arms: “I said to you, ‘Have no dread or fear of them. The Lord your God, who goes before you, is the one who will fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your very eyes, and in the wilderness, where you saw how the Lord your God carried you, just as one carries a child….’” Deuteronomy 1: 29-31 Let’s not forget that we have a special kind of father here at St. John’s! This Father’s Day let’s remember to pray for Father Timothy, that God gives him wisdom and strength in his tireless work to guide us in our spiritual growth toward the Father in heaven.

Next term children in Kinder to Year 2 will participate in a learn to swim program at the
Peninsula Leisure Centre, each Thursday, between 11am and 1.40pm. The Leisure Centre
has requested that any child that does NOT currently attend swimming lessons at this
pool, attend an assessment on Tuesday 17th September between 4pm and 6pm. The
assessment will take only 10 minutes. By children being assessed prior to our program
commencing will ensure that all children receive the full 9 lessons.

On Friday morning we welcome many father figures into our school to enjoy a barbeque

Mary Macs – Shout a Mate
There is a fundraising initiative for Mary Mac’s Place at Woy Woy, called Shout a Mate.
Mary Mac’s operates out of a premises provided by St John the Baptist Parish at Woy
Woy. They provide a daily hot lunch, as well as shower and laundry facilities for people
who are homeless, poor, socially isolated or otherwise disadvantaged. Currently they
serve approximately 500 meals a week Monday to Friday.
The project is completely unfunded by Government and costs around $150K a year to
run. They rely 100% on community support to keep this service running, hence this
donate a plate campaign.
$6 provides a meal for someone. To donate or find out more please follow this link:

Parent Education on Behaviour Management
On Thursday, 5th September, at 7pm there will be a parent session on Positive Behaviour
for Learning. This session will cover our approach here at school as well as what you can
do at home.

Climate Strikes and Climate Marches
The Catholic Schools Office has advised school principals against the participation of their
students in the Climate Strikes and Climate Marches. The marches are gazetted for a
school day and as a system we are embarking on a system wide attendance strategy
where: Learning Every Day Counts. In addition the welfare of students is an important
consideration and the assessment of risks required for a school’s endorsement of such an
activity would be difficult to ascertain given politicisation of these events, unpredictability
and potential for disruption.
For our students, understanding the causes of global warming and becoming informed
and active in local environmental projects will be supported and encouraged by the
Catholic Schools Office.
Cross Country Nationals
Sienna Scahill completed in the Cross Country Nationals on 24
August at Kembla Grange, Wollongong and came first with a time of
10 minutes, 25 seconds. What an amazing achievement and
athlete.
Debating
Congratulations to our school debating team who have gone through
the Central Coast Southern Cluster Catholic School Debating
Competition undefeated. They now go into the grand final to
compete against St Brendan's Lake Munmorah, the northern cluster
winning team. We wish them the best of luck for the grand final
debate in Term 4.
Awards
Congratulations to the children who received merit awards at our last assembly and to
those who have continued to move through the PBL awards for good behaviour.

Get involved in the School Banking program.
SJB is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students.
School Banking day is Tuesday. Each week you need to hand your bank book to your teacher for collection.
School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking will earn an exciting reward evertime they reach 10 deposits.
The rewards available during 2019 are:
Scented Stackable Highlighters
Snowy Origami Set
Icicle Slapband Ruler
Yeti Fluffly Notepad
Arctic Owl Fluffy Keyring
Scratch Art Cards
Water Skimming Bounce Ball
Polar Pencils & Pencil Toppers
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year.
Getting involved in School Banking is easy!
All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:
1. Online
Visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.
2. In branch
Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.
If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.
If you would like to know more about School Banking please visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
St John’s Little Angels Playgroup
Runs in the school hall on every Thursday during school term from 9.20am to 11.20am. Sessions are $2. Parents, carers, and
grandparents are all welcome to come and let their children play with a wide variety of toys and craft activities.
Our playgroup is a small, casual group that allows the children to play in a supervised and fun manner while forging friendships over morning tea.
We are currently looking for new Committee and general members who would like to continue to run the playgroup while
their child attends. Our current committee will soon be leaving as their children attend school. So in order for the playgroup to
continue we are hoping to have the new committee take over in the next couple of months. Ideally, a committee of three is
required – coordinator, secretary and treasurer.
If you are interested or know someone who may be, please call
the Coordinator on 0413 495 354 or come along for a Thursday session.
