a choice of services to suit you

Everyone has different needs, which is why no two Pickfords moves are

ever the same. Whatever your situation, we offer a comprehensive choice of

moving services, which means we can personalise the entire move to suit

your needs, your time schedule and your budget.

A range of packing services

We offer a range of packing services:

Self pack

If you choose to pack your cartons yourself, Pickfords will deliver packing

materials and cartons ahead of move day.

Fragile packing service

You may choose to pack some of your goods yourself, but arrange to have

a professional packing team from Pickfords to pack your most fragile items.

Full packing service

A full packing service means you can sit back and let the professionals pack

everything on move day.

Insurance options

Protecting your goods throughout the moving and storage process is

very important, which is why we provide a choice of insurances designed

especially to protect your goods in transit and in store.

Waivers to save you money

We know that often events beyond your control can delay your move, which

is why we have created ‘Late Key’ and ‘Cancellation’ Waivers, to ensure you

do not have to pay additional costs if the unexpected happens.

Secure storage

Our secure storage options allow you to store anything from a single item

to the entire contents of your home, for as long as you need. You can

choose to store at any of our storage facilities around the country, we will

collect your household effects and deliver them back to you when you need

them.

Small moves service

In addition to our full home moving service we also provide a ‘small moves’

service for people who only have one or two items to move, locally or

nationally. We have a national fl eet of vehicles travelling the length and

breadth of the country every day. By utilising the space on these vehicles

we can provide a very cost effective small moves service.

Special offers for UK home movers on our website

Pickfords has teamed up with a number of companies to offer you a

range of special web based offers to help you save time and money

a guide to your move

The fi rst thing you’ll want to know is how much your move is going to cost.

We know each move is different, so it is best to talk through your needs with

your local Pickfords Move Co-ordinator.

Introducing your personal Move Co-ordinator

For all moves we appoint a personal Move Co-ordinator who is your main

contact throughout the entire moving process. Your Move Co-ordinator will

arrange your appointment with our Move Consultant and, when you receive

your move plan and quotation, will go through it with you and answer any

questions you may have. Advice is always available and your Move Co-

ordinator will ensure that everything you have requested is in your move plan

and that every aspect of your move proceeds as you had planned.

Your Move Consultant

Wherever possible we recommend that a Move Consultant visits your

home. The visit should last no more than an hour and will allow the

Consultant to assess and measure all your belongings and identify your

wrapping and packing requirements. Your Move Consultant will ask you to

identify fragile or high value items so we can give the best recommendations

for packing materials and procedures. It is important to give as much

information as you can, so we can provide you with an accurate quotation.

Page 11: Pickfords Moving and Storage Brochure

11

your quotation

Your quotation will show the cost of the move itself and will include a number

of options so you can make a choice of the moving, storage and insurance

services that you need. Our commitment is to provide a service to suit you, so

our quotation will clearly defi ne the range of services available to you.

Here is an example of a Pickfords removal quotation.

store, including any packing, where applicable. VAT at the prevailing rate applies.

The move timetable will include a clear schedule for your move. Please check

and make a note to contact your Move Co-ordinator if there have been any

rate. These services can include: Premises Protection, Cancellation Waiver, Late

these points carefully and once again notify your Move Co-ordinator of any

changes as soon as possible.

insurance and waivers

For your peace of mind

Accidents can happen. Our unique Goods in Transit and Storage

Insurance will protect your goods from the home you are leaving to their

new destination. Our insurance is underwritten by a regulated insurance

company and, in the event of a valid claim, you will be compensated or your

goods will be repaired or replaced, at the insurer’s option.

A short term policy with no excess

There is no excess on Pickfords’ Goods in Transit Insurance and we

manage the claims settlement process in-house, dealing with you directly

rather than outsourcing this process to a third party.

Premises Protection

Like all removal companies, our terms and conditions limit the amount we

will pay if we cause accidental damage to your home. For your peace of

mind, you can buy additional cover (a Waiver) from us to cover an individual

or both properties against accidental damage.

Protecting our customers’ interests

Pickfords has a unique Insurance Charter (available from your local branch)

which defi nes our standards and our approach to selling insurance.

Pickfords is a voluntary member of the Financial Ombudsman’s Service

which means our customers have access to an independent organisation to

resolve any concerns, should they feel they have been mis-sold insurance.

Our Insurance Charter is designed to protect our customers’ interests.

Page 15: Pickfords Moving and Storage Brochure

15

Prepare for the unexpected

Sometimes events take place that are out of our control, such as not being

able to gain access to your new property at the agreed completion time

or having to cancel your move at short notice. Pickfords has created two

Waivers, which give you a degree of fl exibility, so you won’t have to pay

costs should the unexpected happen.

Late Key Waiver

If your Moving Team is delayed due to access issues there will be additional

costs for you to bear. Pickfords offers a Late Key Waiver which will cover

these costs if there is a delay in access to your new property.

The Late Key Waiver gives you the fl exibility of a three-hour waiting time from

the completion of your property. This means your Pickfords Moving Team

will be on site to complete the removal until 7pm or until the crew has used

up its hours according to the Working Time Directive.

Cancellation Waiver

In the event of unforeseen circumstances you may have to cancel or

postpone the removal after it has been confi rmed, making you liable for a

cancellation fee. Pickfords has developed a Cancellation Waiver to give our

customers complete peace of mind.

Our Cancellation Waiver means that you have complete fl exibility and will not

incur an additional charge if your plans change at the last minute.

Page 16: Pickfords Moving and Storage Brochure

16

booking your move with Pickfords

Once you have reviewed the quotation, call your local branch of Pickfords to

provisionally book your move day. Bookings are being taken all the time and

availability is changing day by day, and sometimes even by the hour.

When you have provisionally booked your move, fi nd your acceptance form

in your quotation pack and complete the paperwork to secure your move

date. This is the all important paperwork that will confi rm your move day into

our operational diary.

preparing for your move

Even though you have chosen the country’s most experienced moving company

to take the strain there is still a number of things you’ll need to consider in

advance to ensure a trouble-free move.

We have compiled the following hints and tips to help you prepare for move day.

Self-assembly furniture

Pickfords does not provide dismantling and reassembly services as a standard

part of the service. We can arrange for a joiner to dismantle the furniture, we

treat each case separately and would assess the age, condition and complexity

of the furniture before making this recommendation.

Attics and lofts

Preferably, attics and lofts should be cleared and items placed in a bedroom

or other convenient spot prior to the arrival of our Moving Team. This ensures

they can see the entire scale of your move, when they fi rst arrive, and prevents

anything being forgotten.

Cookers/washing machines/fridges and freezers

These should all be disconnected, drained and dried prior to our arrival. To avoid

damage, ideally the drums of automatic washing machines should be secured

with the proper brackets supplied by the manufacturer. To arrange a qualifi ed

professional to provide this service call Pickfords “Fix it Fast” on 0800 088

4580. To avoid unpleasant odours we advise that fridges and freezers should

be washed out with a strong solution of bicarbonate of soda and hot water, not

detergent.

Curtains/blinds/items fi xed to walls

These should be taken down prior to the arrival of our Moving Team. Please

place pictures and mirrors in a neat stack, they may have to be loaded fi rst.

Packing & unpacking

If we have quoted to perform this work for you then there is little more to add.

If you have decided to do your own packing then please ensure that the

containers you use are strong enough to permit stacking without damaging the

contents.

Wrapping and packing materials and moving kits can be bought direct from

Pickfords and online at www.pickfordsselfpack.co.uk . Delivery by courier and

credit card payment make this a very convenient service.

Consideration should be given to the number of heavy articles placed in each

container, as a carton full of books can prove impossible to move even for the

strongest member of the Moving Team. Only half fi ll such containers and then

top up with lighter items.

Page 19: Pickfords Moving and Storage Brochure

19

Keep clothing on hangers

Clothing can remain on hangers. We will provide special wardrobe cartons in

various sizes for your clothes. All other items of clothing should be packed into

suitcases as if preparing for a holiday.

Bedding and linen

All bedding and linen should be folded and laid out on beds ready for packing,

if we have quoted to wrap and pack your belongings.

Plasma TV, hi-fi , video and computer equipment

This type of equipment is best moved in its original packaging. Pickfords has

developed special cartons and covers to protect fl at screen TVs and DVDs in

transit.

China glass and ornaments

These can be left in cupboards and on shelves ready for our Moving Team to

pack (if these have been included in the quotation).

Contents of garages and garden sheds

Ensure any rubbish is discarded and tools cleaned and bundled together for

ease of carrying. We cannot accept fl ammable substances, old tins of paint,

creosote, paraffi n, matches, gas bottles or similar items, as this completely

invalidates any insurance cover you may have arranged with us. Any other

containers or bottles should be securely sealed to prevent spillage.

Pets

The mildest tempered creatures can become very unsettled when they see

the family home being moved. It is comforting for the animals to travel with

familiar people. It is best to keep your pets out of the way on moving day when

collection and delivery of your furniture is taking place.

Fitness equipment

If you have fi tness equipment that needs to be moved, it is advisable to arrange

to have the equipment dismantled before move day.

Plants

Wrap your plants in newspaper. This protects them from draughts and stops the

leaves from being bruised. Once in your new home, stand them in the warm and

don’t unwrap until the activity has fi nished and the door is shut. In summer, don’t

leave them in a hot car or in the sun.

Exclusions

Pickfords’ terms and conditions and the terms of insurance do not cover

jewellery, watches, precious stones, money, coins, bullion, deeds, bonds,

securities, stamps, furs, tobacco and cigars. It is best to pack these yourself and

carry these items in the car. Please refer to your Guidance Notes for Customers

booklet to fi nd a complete list of exclusions.

20

on moving day

Moving day has arrived. If you have asked Pickfords to pack for you, it’s time

to sit back and let our professional packing team go to work. By arranging

this service, you will save your time and effort and ensure your goods are

protected during your move.

Protecting your home

Pickfords will ensure your home is protected during the move. Special care

will be taken to protect your carpets, wooden fl oors, banisters and doors

prior to moving your furniture.

Professional wrapping and packing

A day or so before your actual move date a packing team will carry out this

service, using our own range of wrapping and packing materials, to ensure

your goods are protected during your move.

Silverware

Silverware is wrapped in acid-free tissue to prevent tarnishing.

China and glassware

China and glassware are individually wrapped before being packed in

special china cartons.

Clothes and books

Clothes are hung in specially railed wardrobe cartons whilst books will be fl at

packed into sturdy book cartons.

Page 21: Pickfords Moving and Storage Brochure

21

White goods and appliances

We will wrap your white goods in specially designed padded appliance

covers to protect them during the move.

Sofas

Sofas, large chairs and mattresses all have their own specially designed

covers to protect these items from tearing, marks and dents.

Crates

For those items that you have singled out for extra care, we can make

wooden crates to add an extra layer of protection.

Special cartons

Pickfords has developed a range of cartons to cater for all your individual

needs. We have cartons to protect your wine collection, bicycles, golf

clubs, pictures and lampshades.

Unpacking at your new home

Our unpacking service consists of unpacking and unwrapping your

belongings on to fl at surfaces and the disposal of all packing materials.

Our crews will work under your direction, so it is advisable to have a plan

in mind on delivery day.

Page 22: Pickfords Moving and Storage Brochure

22

safe and secure storage

In today’s home moving market storage has an increasingly important role to play,

as it can make the difference between keeping and losing a sale.

Convenient collection

Pickfords will arrive at your home and pack your possessions into a secure wooden

storage container. This means you do not have to transport the goods yourself,

saving you the cost of a hire van and your time. It also means you will not have to

do the heavy work of lifting furniture.

Accurate records of your storage consignment

If you are placing goods into long term storage, you may not be accessing them for

some years. Pickfords will create an inventory of all goods going into store, so that

you have an accurate record of the goods in our care.

Sealed at residence

For security purposes your storage container will be sealed at your residence,

wherever possible, and will not be opened until you are ready for delivery.

Convenient delivery service

When you are ready for delivery, Pickfords will deliver your consignment to its new

location at a mutually convenient time.

Easy monthly payments

You can choose to pay monthly by easy direct debit payments or by cheque. If you

choose to pay by cheque there will be an administration charge of £5 + VAT added

to your storage invoice.
