Two features in this photo distinguish the hairy helmet crab (TECH) from the European green crab (CAMA):

1. The green crab carapace is pentagon shaped, while a hairy helmet crab carapace is diamond shaped.

2. Hairy helmet crab has 6 marginal teeth (widest at the 5th) while the green crab only has 5 and is widest at the last tooth.

3. The hairy helmet crab is covered with bristles and bumps, even on the carapace. Green crab have some fine hairs on their legs, but a smooth carapace and shell overall.

1. The hairy helmet crab is covered in hairs on its carapace, legs, and claws (even if hairs not present on a molt, the carapace is still very bumpy).

2. The spider crab is longer from front to back than it is wide with a very pronounced rostrum that protrudes far between the eyes, while the hairy helmet crab, though diamond shaped, is still wider than it is long.
