Photo Transfer Painting Requirements

• You must come up with a theme.• Capture at least 3 different, well-composed

images.• Incorporate text – word, quote, letter, initials…• Mix various colors of paint, layer

newspaper/patterned paper• Add found object(s) that creatively relate to your

theme • Add visual texture – corrogated

• Take more than three photos and then select your best and edit

Incorporate text

• Type or hand-write a quote/initials/word, etc. that relates to your theme.

• Use text in more than one place – one hand written, one stenciled

• Decide how large you want the text to appear• Choose fonts that look appropriate with your

theme.• Print out

Paint and Paper

• You will be painting with acrylic paint to create a background.

• Before doing so, adhere patterned paper/music notes/newspaper for an extra texture. Use gel medium as the glue.

• Use a large brush and a few colors to paint over paper (colors should relate to theme and not be too dark)

Paint and Paper

Photo transfer• Plan out where you want

your printed photos to be transferred on your painting.

• Properly transfer photos by cutting extra paper off, placing face down, and attaching to painting with gel medium.

• Allow to dry.• Remove paper by spraying

paper with water and rubbing. Only the ink will remain!.

Finishing touches

• Enhance/embellish painting with :– Printmaking - using lids, doilies, – Found objects that relate to theme (buttons,

coins, twigs, etc)– Fabric– Any other painting/drawing/layering/spray paint
