Discovering about Internal Grammar
The most usual, pratctical way to procede:
• rely on native speakers who act as informants and provide us with data
• testing our hypothesis about language (the cognitive system) with respect to the data provided.

• Hypothesis: such features are universal - common to all grammars (i.e. languages, dialects...)
• Another goal of linguistics is to develop a theory of Universal grammar, i.e. of human language.
• Generative linguistics: testing hypotheses about UG on a great variety of languages.
