Phonics Screening Check The Year 1 phonics screening check is a short, assessment to confirm whether individual pupils have learnt phonic decoding to an appropriate standard, ie 32 words out of 40 read correctly. The check will identify children who need further support. An opportunity to retake the check will be given in Year 2.

Welcome to the Year 1 Curriculum Evening

PhonicsAt Chalfont St Peter Infant School we teach lsquoLetters

and Soundsrsquo Phonics Over this year the children will be revising some of Phase 3 and 4 and completing Phase 5 of this synthetic phonics scheme

A 20 minute Phonics lesson is taught every morning These include word hunts interactive games word building and sentence work

The children are encouraged to understand and use a phoneme frame and sound buttons in order to blend and segment for reading and writing

Phonics Screening CheckThe Year 1 phonics screening check is a short

Represent and use number bonds and related subtraction facts within 20

Add and subtract one-digit and two-digit numbers to 20 including zero

Solve one-step problems that involve addition and subtraction using concrete objects and pictorial representations and missing number problems such as 7 = ndash 9

Count to and across 100 forwards and backwards beginning with 0 or 1 or from any given number

bull Count read and write numbers to 100 in numerals count in multiples of twos fives and tens

Given a number identify one more and one less
