DESCRIPTION
Phonics Screening Check The Year 1 phonics screening check is a short, assessment to confirm whether individual pupils have learnt phonic decoding to an appropriate standard, ie 32 words out of 40 read correctly. The check will identify children who need further support. An opportunity to retake the check will be given in Year 2.

Welcome to the Year 1 Curriculum Evening
PhonicsAt Chalfont St Peter Infant School we teach lsquoLetters
and Soundsrsquo Phonics Over this year the children will be revising some of Phase 3 and 4 and completing Phase 5 of this synthetic phonics scheme
A 20 minute Phonics lesson is taught every morning These include word hunts interactive games word building and sentence work
The children are encouraged to understand and use a phoneme frame and sound buttons in order to blend and segment for reading and writing
