We are consulting with our staff, the parents of current and prospective students and local early childhood services. The Board will consider these views when making a final decision. If you have any comment or feedback on cohort entry at Greenhithe School, please email via [email protected] Plan A For schools which introduce cohort entry, new entrants can start school as part of a cohort at the beginning of the term closest to their fifth birthday rather than on their fifth birthday or soon afterwards. The parent could also decide to start at the beginning of the following term after they turn five. The only compulsory factor is that they start school before they are 6 years old. Plan B The Ministry has also introduced mid term dates for schools implementing cohort entry. This date is the mid-point between the start of term and the start of the next term. If a child’s birthday falls before the mid term date, then they can start school at the beginning of that term or the beginning of any following term until their 6th birthday. If their birthday falls on or after the mid term date then they can start school at the beginning of the following term or at the start of any following term until their 6 th birthday. A plea from teachers. The bell goes at 8.55am for the start of school. If children could be in by then it does make the start of day a lot easier. It also saves the office from making unnecessary calls. Thanks for your help here. Have a great fortnight. Regards Peter

National maths week This week is national maths week. All week, children have been enjoying new maths activities, problem solving, going on maths trails around the school and designing maths games for other classes. The aim for the week is to shift children's view of maths; to see maths as fun life skills and to develop a positive attitude to maths. "I like doing maths week. I’m not so into maths but it’s fun. The best thing about maths week is the problems in the Think Tank box and the Tangoes game."- Marley Room 14

SPORTS CORNER

WINTER SPORTS DAY

Last Friday Greenhithe School sent a team to compete at the annual Kristin Winter Sports Day. We were represented in five different codes - football, hockey, miniball, netball and rugby. These teams all performed brilliantly with some outstanding results which included our netball team winning the tournament, our football team coming runners up and our Miniball and rugby teams placing third. I would like to thank all the parents who helped with transport and supporting our children during the day. A special thank you to John Roberts, Ephraim Smith, Kath Fruish, Stephen Grady and Will Seedhouse who coached our teams. Your expertise was most valued. Here are some photos from the day.
