From the Principal Virtual Senior Assembly Last Friday we held our first Senior Virtual Assembly for our Year 3-6 students using Microsoft Teams.
The virtual assembly was a huge success with very positive feedback from both students and teachers. It was wonderful to once again to be able to share key messages and celebrate student successes with our senior students.
One of our Year 6 students made the point at morning tea that the virtual assembly was positively different, but a step closer to getting back to normal school routines. I would also like to thank our school captains and music captain for helping with the presentation of the virtual assembly. We look forward to our next virtual assembly this coming Friday.
Parent School Opinion Survey Last Wednesday, 17 June, you should have received an email with a link to complete the 2020 Parent School Opinion Survey. Parents and Caregivers are invited to participate in this year’s survey and have a say about schooling during the COVID-19 lockdown. You are also given the opportunity to provide feedback about our school more generally.
Participation in the survey is anonymous and you are encouraged to take this opportunity to have your say. The survey form has been designed so that it can easily be completed on a computer or smartphone. The online survey will be available until Friday, 17 July 2020, and should take less than five minutes to complete.
Please contact the school if you have any questions about the survey.
Farewell Mrs Hoskins After 25 years teaching at Eagle Junction State School, Mrs Hoskins will be taking leave from EJSS at the end of this term to embark on an exciting adventure teaching at an international school in Hong Kong for 2 years. We wish her all the very best and trust that her next 2 years will be a rewarding one. She will be greatly missed and look forward to her eventual return.
I would like to thank the EJSS community for their support in what was an unprecedented first half of 2020. Our students, staff and families can be very proud of what has been achieved. The students certainly used the EJ Learning Powers during the first five weeks of Term Two whether they were learning at home or learning onsite.
Have a great holiday and we look forward to seeing everyone well rested and eager to begin a new term on Monday 13 July.

From the Deputy Principals Year 3—Year 6 I would like to wish everyone all the best for their Queensland holiday. Semester One 2020 has certainly had some challenges. The photos below illustrate the work some of our Year 3 students have been doing learning about the wonders of Space. I congratulate them on the efforts they put into these projects. Year 4 students have been learning about animals and their habitats and have also produced some amazing Information documents and some dioramas at home.
I have been enjoying reading our student report cards and congratulate all students on their commitment to their learning. Special thanks also to our wonderful parents for their support throughout this semester. I look forward to Term Three and a new beginning. Most importantly stay safe and stay well.

Prep-Year 2 As the term draws to a close, it is a good opportunity to reflect on the learning journey this semester and celebrate your child’s achievements and progress. For our Prep students, many have learnt to read and write in their first semester of schooling – a great achievement for our youngest learners! Students in Year One and Two have continued to build on their learning and regularly astound their teachers with their progress and achievements.
Some of our early years students, focused on reading and writing and using feedback to improve their writing.
Report Cards Report cards will be emailed directly to parents on Tuesday 21 July. Teachers are currently gathering data and making judgements to give an accurate description of every student’s learning achievements throughout the semester. Sharing your child’s report card with them and capitalising on the opportunity to reflect on their progress is a crucial factor in establishing expectation and front ending success for next semester. It is important that you share this document with your child and discuss the positives and where to from here. Please ensure you have added [email protected] to your list of safe senders to ensure report card emails aren’t sent to your junk email.

From the Head of Teaching and Learning
Planning Days Over the last two weeks, our teams of hard-working EJ teachers have met to plan the curriculum for Term Three. This involves becoming familiar with the content to be covered and the assessment to be completed for all learning areas.
In year level teams, teachers reflect on the success of teaching and learning previously and work to maximise the effectiveness of planning for the upcoming term. Teachers also use this time to share resources, quality ideas for learning experiences, differentiate for all learners and discuss consistency in teaching and assessment practices. This process ensures all students in a year level are taking part in high-quality teaching and learning.
Our teachers are continuously improving and building on their range of skills and practices. Teachers at EJ approach this planning process with enthusiasm and joy at all times. We are all looking forward to a great Term Three of learning at EJ.
Science: Push and Pull in Year Two Year Two have been designing a toy that moves with a push or pull. They also described a change to the toy and explained how it affected the toy’s movement.
The students in 2E definitely showed that Science is fun! I hope you all have a lovely break and I look forward to seeing you in Term Three.
