Term 3 Week 2, 2 August, 2018
Principal’s Report - Richard Ford
Welcome to the first newsletter for Term 3. What a great start to the term we have had.
The students have seamlessly moved out of holiday mode and straight into learning. It is
wonderful walking into classrooms and seeing students so proud of their work and that so
many want to show me their achievements. It is also wonderful to see them reflecting on
their progress. When I walked into one classroom I had a student show me their work, but
they also showed me their work dated earlier in the year. When I asked them why they
wanted me to see the earlier work, they told me that they had set themselves a goal of
writing more and making their writing more interesting. They were able to show me the
improvements and it was evident that they were trying their best.
Yesterday was our “Dress like a Farmer Day” mufti day. The day came about from one
students who penned a letter asking how could our school help the farmers. Ashlynn
wrote the letter not knowing what could come of it but hoping a difference could be made.
From the actions of this one child the flow on effect resulted in the school raising $1802
for our farmers. We had families donate sums of $120, $50, and even students donating
their whole piggybanks. The P and C kindly donated $500 to the cause as well. These
donations will go to “Buyabale.com.au”. It means that we can help our farmers feed 18
cows for a week.

What’s Happening at Crawford... PSSA
The winter PSSA competition began again tlast week and with only 2 rounds before finals
begin I would like to thank all the students and the coaches for their support of PSSA and
positive attitude even when teams are low on numbers due to illness or being away on
extended holiday breaks. We will know in the next two weeks if any of our teams will be
involved in any of the finals series. Summer PSSA will return in week 7 of this term and
then continue into Term 4. More information shall be sent out in future newsletters.
Recreation Raffle
At the end of last term the raffle that was held to raise money for library resources and
playground game resources raised $294. Thank you to all those parents, students and
community members who purchased a ticket. The major prizes of the bikes were won by
one of the canteen ladies. Some of our students collected the scooter, hand held games, back
packs and the skateboards. We will be holding another raffle after the book fair in mid
August to assist with purchasing library board games for those students who like using the
library at lunch times.

Book Fair 2018
This year we are holding the book fair in the library from the 20th and 21st of August in
the library. On the 22nd of August there will be one last chance to buy resources from the
book fair before the book character parade. A timetable for each class will be created to
assist with the purchasing of books and resources. This years theme is 'Diving into treasure'
so we shall have a pirate/sea theme happening in the library. We have a goal of at least
$2000 in Book fair sales this year so all support from all our students and community
members will be much appreciated. All monies raised shall then go back into our library to
build it for a better tomorrow for current and future students at Crawford Public School and
our staff. Books and other resources on sale make fantastic presents and even looking ahead
stocking fillers for those who celebrate Christmas. There will be a chance for students to
view the resources on Friday 17th in the library and students can take a wish list home the
weekend prior to the book fair and discuss their choices/wishes with their parents and
guardians. As this is my first book fair as a relieving librarian I hope that everyone can
support me with his fantastic educational and discovery experience.
Library Returns
Thank you to all those families who have returned overdue library books and resources.
Keep borrowing from our library students and ask your parents or carers for a library bag.
Our school one is only $7 from the uniform shop and is so strong it should last your child's
educational experience at our school. Another option is to buy one at another retailer or
even get a shopping bag from one of the supermarkets. For less than $1 your child could
read to you or you read to them. What a way to connect through the magic of a book.

Education Week
Next week is Education Week. Our choir will be performing at Mt Druitt Westfield's on
Monday morning and we hope they enjoy the experience. The school have decided to
combine our Education Week and Book Week activities in week 5. On Wednesday 22nd
August we will have open classrooms, a book character parade and the book fair will be
open in the library. We hope that you can join us on the day to celebrate our students
learning.
This term Mr Campbell was successful in filling the Deputy Principal role for the remainder
of the term. Currently there is a process in the school to fill the remaining Assistant
Principal position and the Instructional Leader position that Mrs Taylor also held. These
should be filled by the end of next week.
I would like to Welcome Mrs Tuipulotu to the front office. Mrs Tuipulotu was successful
through a merit selection process and has fit in to the school really well. Please introduce
yourself if you see her in the office. I would like to thank Mrs Chappuis who filled in the
role for the last 6 months. Mrs Chappuis will be reprising her role of School Learning
Support officer and assisting our students and teachers in the classrooms.
We have lots of things coming up this term so we have attached a calendar so you can see
what has already been planned.
Please make sure you keep up to date by following our Facebook page and downloading the
skoolbag app.

Students in 5/6M have made the remarkable discovery of something from outer space. By using their researching and publishing
skills they were able to hone in on a space topic of their choice and create an information report. By combining the elements of
English and Science students asked themselves important questions about space phenomena. Below is a sample from 3 students,
Mia, Kahlea and Tara. Look out for more this term! This is stage 3 mission control, have a great day!

Crawford Cubs
We are really excited to work alongside you to make the transition to
school process fun and less daunting. This is a great opportunity for your
child to play with others while developing their school dispositions, skills
and familiarity with our school environment. It is also a great chance for
you to meet other families and receive insightful information from early
childhood and primary teachers, as well as health professionals.
Don’t forget to bring along a hat as well as a piece of
fruit and drink for ‘Crunch and Sip’.
We look forward to seeing you on Friday 21 September! If you have any
questions about our Crawford Cubs transition to school program or school
readiness for your child, please do not hesitate to contact Miss Allen on
