Thank you to those who are financially support-ing us during the epidemic and suspension of Masses. We are praying for all our families, especially those facing financial stress.

The practice of tithing provides a regular reminder of your dependence on God. In good times, tithing helps you remember that God is the source of all blessings, and it allows you to demonstrate your gratitude for His care. In hard times, tithing moti-vates you to remember God’s faithfulness and ena-bles you to demonstrate trust in God to provide for all of our needs.

Father, please open the church! During the Eucharistic Procession through the community on May 2 & 3 people expressed the deep desire to have the church, St. Peter and all churches, reopen! I share that same desire! I miss having Mass with all of you. At the time of the suspension of public Mass Archbishop Perez wrote, “Being unable to come to Mass and receive the gift of the Eucharist is a huge sacrifice that we must make to protect the health and well-being of all those with whom we come in con-tact.” At that time the Archbishop expressed his hope that, “…this restriction is temporary and I pray short lived, our faith life continues.” (March 18, 2020) At the same time, the Church in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and the Church of St. Peter in West Brandywine, have not shut down! The church has not disappeared and it has not aban-doned you. As many of you know, because you have come to the church building, we have opened the chapel every Sunday and weekday from 5:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. and every Saturday from 3 p.m. through 4:30 p.m. Confessions are still heard on Tuesday evenings 6 p.m. through 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 3:30 p.m. through 4:30 p.m. We are responding to every call for the sacrament of the sick and to every request for a funeral service including graveside services, funeral home services, and funeral Masses all within the guidelines of social distancing and limited attendance. Our charitable outreach continues through the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Caring for Friends (formerly Aid for Friends), and the Honey Brook Food Pantry monthly food drive. Sue, Dottie, Robin, and Austin continue to service our many ministry and spiritual needs and Deacon Todd, Jan, and many others are continuing through various media to continue Faith Formation, Fellowship, and Sacramental preparation programs. Parish Religious Education as well as Pope John Paul II Ele-mentary Catholic School have moved impressively into the virtual classroom, as volunteers and education professionals actively engage students and families in Catholic Education. I have made a little bit of humor out of repeating that 2 months ago I couldn’t even spell ZOOM, and now I practically live on it. (Although I need a lot of help from our outstanding Media team!) We are dramatically more vibrant and present on Facebook, YouTube, Mailchimp, and on our updated web page. Please make sure you are reading the parish bulletin online, receiving our Web-based parish newsletter Stepping Stones, and watch-ing our web streamed Sunday Mass. Let us know how we are doing and tell us about your own outreach and resources. We will open the churches soon, probably in stages, and within guidelines seeking to keep us all safe and healthy. Let’s get back to the ‘brick and mortar’ church with real time worship, fel-lowship and community soon, and safely! Pray the rosary eve-ryday as a family, reach out to neighbors and friends, especially the isolated and vulnerable. Don’t let the life of Christ in you get isolated from the Body of Christ, the church. “…where ever two or three of you are gathered – even virtually – there I am in the midst of you!” Fr. Fitzpatrick

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA): We begin with prayer based on the Sunday readings fol-lowed by teaching and discussion.

Our time is guided by Keith Kibler, Nancy Schneider, Deb Reif, Jan and

Todd Smith, along with Fr. Fitzpatrick. Our candi-date and potential catechumens this year include folks from a wide range of ages and religious backgrounds, and from no particular religious back-ground. I invite your prayers for Justin, Nicole, Mark, and Lindsay.

“If I cannot give bountifully, yet will I give freely.”

6th Sunday of Easter May 16 & 17, 2020

First Reading Acts 8: 5 - 8, 14 - 17 Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed the Christ to them. With one accord, the crowds paid attention to what was said by Philip when they heard it and saw the signs he was doing. For unclean spirits, crying out in a loud voice, came out of many possessed people, and many paralyzed or crippled people were cured. There was great joy in that city. Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, who went down and prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit, for it had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.

Responsorial: Psalm 66 R. Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.

Second Reading 1 Peter 3: 15 - 18

Beloved: Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, but do it with gentleness and reverence, keeping your conscience clear, so that, when you are maligned, those who defame your good conduct in Christ may themselves be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be the will of God, than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the sake of the unrighteous, that he might lead you to God. Put to death in the flesh, he was brought to life in the Spirit.

Gospel John 14: 15 - 21

Jesus said to his disciples: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows him. But you know him, be-cause he remains with you, and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me, because I live and you will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you. Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.”

Are you an Amazon or AmeriGas customer?

Here are “two” easy ways to help support Pope John Paul II Catholic School:

1) AmazonSmile - AmazonSmile is a website operated by Am-azon that lets you enjoy the same shopping experience as on Amazon.com. The difference is that when you shop at Ama-zonSmile (smile.amazn.com), the AmazonSmile Foundation donates 0.5% of the price of eligible purchase to PJPII School. Visit https://smile.amazon.com/ch/23-1744547 and search Pope John Paul II Regional Catholic Elementary School in Coatesville, Pa. to get started.

2) AmeriGas School Days Program - If you purchase propane from AmeriGas or are affiliated with a business that purchases propane from AmeriGas, look for the "SCHOOL DAYS RECEIPT" section of your invoice. This program awards 2 cents to PJP II for every gallon of gas a customer uses up to $2,000 per year. Clip the "School Days Receipt" portion of your invoice and drop off at the school or mail to PJPII School - 2875 Manor Rd., West Brandywine, Pa 19320.

Questions? Contact the Advancement office: [email protected] or 610-384-5961.

Thank you for your support!

Life as we know it is quickly coming to a screeching halt. Each day brings new directives in response to the spreading of the coronavirus. All indicators point to a crisis which has yet to peak.

The latest mandates have closed PREP programs for the remainder of the school year.

All this is being done for the safety and well-being of the PREP staff, volunteers, and families.

ALL PREP Classes are now being conducted as a “Home-Study Model.” Parents please follow the schedule of classes and chapters to teach, which can be found on the PREP page of the Parish Website. Additionally, parents will receive weekly updates from the catechists.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation as we navigate these new waters together.

All of us weave prayers into our handiwork and pray for all our recipients who live nearby, around the country, and even overseas! If you’d like to join our ministry, our gatherings are fun, inspirational, and optional. To find out more or select a piece for someone, contact Jan Smith at 610-269-1756 or [email protected].
