Dear Families.

We will keep in mind and pray for those still suffering from the sadness in Orlando, US this week.

Hold our hands, Lord, walk us through the loneliness and the valley of our sorrows. Hold on to us when we’re too afraid To think about the future. Let us lean on you, Lord, when we’re too weary to continue. hold our hands, Lord, through the night until we see the light of dawn

Children’s Semester One reports will come home on Friday so please keep a look out in the children’s bags for them. Next week’s parent / teacher interviews will be an opportunity to discuss the reports and anything else you need to share with your children’s teachers. Parent / Teacher interviews will be held next Monday, 20 June in the children’s classrooms. I hope families have made appointments to come and speak to your children’s teachers as spaces fill up fast. Those of you who do not make an appointment will have one made for you from the remaining timeslots and sent to you. Hope to see everyone next Monday afternoon. On Tuesday, 21 June we celebrate the Feast Day of St Aloysius, the patron saint of both our school and our Parish. We will have Mass at 9.30 to start off our day’s celebrations and then there will be special activities for the rest of the day. I’m sure the children will come home with lots of stories at the end of the day. On Friday 24 June, the last day of Term 2 school concludes at 2:30pm for students. On this day please remember you will need to make arrangements to pick up your children at this earlier time, and on time as they do tend to get distressed if they are late being picked up. School will resume with Term 3 starting on Monday, 11 July at 8.50am

Have a great week everyone.

Dear Families,

Next Tuesday, we commemorate the Feast Day of St. Aloysius, patron saint of our school and parish and invite our whole school community to come together for Mass at 9:30am in the St. Aloysius church.

After Mass our whole school community is invited to join us in the school auditorium (gym) for an Italian performance by the children, commencing at around 10:20am and should finish at approximately 10:50am. The children from our Year 1/2 classes will be singing for us and our newly formed St. Aloysius Choir will also perform for us, with an authentic Italian song. The children are very excited, so please come join us and let’s celebrate together!

After recess the children will continue to commemorate this special day with a range of activities paying homage to St. Aloysius’ Italian heritage, albeit with a modern twist, our activities are; Gondola Racing, Bocce, mask making, La cappella Sistina painting and Futsal along with a traditional Italian music lesson. The rotation of activities will continue through the day.

In the afternoon our senior students will be holding a Cultural Expo in the Auditorium to present their Geography Projects, as part of their Term 2 Inquiry. Families are invited to come and see the children’s work.

The children’s lunch break will be staggered on this day to suit the rotation of activities and the lunchtime Pizza will be supplied by school to the children - there is no additional charge for this. A permission slip for the children to share in the pizza lunch will be sent home to families this week, so please indicate if you consent for your child to share in this Feast Day lunch. If your child would prefer to bring their own lunch they may still do so. If you do not wish your child to have pizza on this day please indicate this on the form and return to school.

Families are most welcome to join us at any point throughout the day.

Please note: Our Feast Day Pizza lunch next Tuesday, is not to be confused with the P&F ‘Pizza’ lunch day to be held on the last day of term. Separate order forms will be sent home for this, as this is a Term 2 fundraiser for our school and will replace our Tuckshop menu on the last day of term. Thank you.

Thank you to the many parents and teachers who have contributed to our 'What we are excited about' OLSEL display in the passageway. OLSEL stands for Early Language Supporting Oral Language.

The purpose of this wall is to celebrate the commitment our school, students and teachers have made in their classrooms to focus on Oral language.

You may have noticed your child...expanding their vocabulary, talking about synonyms and antonyms of words or using a 'Phoneme Fist' to decode words. The other day in the middle of the supermarket, I heard a child from our school say..."hang on mum, I will use my phoneme fist!" whilst reading a shopping list. This is very exciting and we would love to hear these stories! Please feel free to use a Post-It note to write these celebrations up. Take some time to read our wall and add to it. All our teachers are very excited about the developments and progress our students have made embracing our new OLSEL approach. Please read, add to and enjoy our OLSEL Wall. Any questions or concerns please see me, Jo Townsend.
