The benefits of lighting controlsModern lighting controls deliver a range of benefits, most of whichcan be measured in real improvements to the profits of a business. From straightforward energy savings, through reduced maintenancecosts to potential increases in productivity, lighting controls haveclearly demonstrated their worth.Over the past 25 years Philips lighting controls have developed a fullrange of solutions designed to deliver these benefits.

Energy SavingNo business likes to be seen to be wasteful. Lighting controls ensurethat lighting is only provided when and where it is needed.Advancedsensors are used to integrate daylight and to detect occupancy.Thesesolutions have been shown to reduce lighting use by as much as 75%.Result-no obvious waste or compromise of comfort.

Installation Cost SavingOccupancy sensors and wireless infra-red controls avoid the use ofwired switches. Control products compatible with a ‘plug-in’approach to installation can save up to 70% of the ‘on-site’ labourtime. And these savings continue during the life of the buildingwhenever changes are needed.

ComfortIn business today the provision of a comfortable environment forpeople to learn, work, shop, eat, rest and play is vital for success. With Philips’ controls, the lighting can be set to suit the task, theexperience, individual preferences and tge required mood – and thenreadily change them as well.

SafetyThere is an increasing awareness of safety and well being, with agrowing emphasis on the importance of emergency lighting.

FlexibilityIt is said that the only certainty in life is that things will change.Anybuilding that cannot be readily adapted to changing business needsand use is not acceptable today. Philips lighting controls are designedto facilitate change-rapidly and effectively–whatever the application.

Meeting LegislationClimate change, as well as health and safety are provokinggovernments into making more and more regulations, standards andlegislation. Often lighting alone will not easily meet these demandswithout the addition of a control solution. In this field, Philps lightingcontrols has unrivalled knowledge and experience to share.

MaintenanceThe easier it is to maintain a lighting installation the lower the costof ownership.A Philips lighting management solution can extend lamplife, provide regular maintenance schedules and report on thecondition of emergency lights. Our lighting management solutionsensure that exit route lighting is maintained during periods ofoccupancy and emergency lighting is effectively tested andmonitored.

Automatic control

1. Movement detectionTo control lighting within a specific area, sensing of occupancy by

movement detection ensures that lights are activated only when

needed.

2. Daylight linkingNatural light is energy-saving and beneficial to individual users. Light

output can respond to daylight conditions, maintaining a constant level

of indoor lighting and ensuring comfort at all times.

3.Time scheduleDaily programming of the management of lighting installations enables

the correct lighting levels to be achieved at all times, by changing

lighting levels, by switching lights on and off or by adjusting the way

control systems respond to other devices.

Manual control

4. Pushbuttons/wall switchesLighting Control systems can also be operated manually by connecting

conventional wall switches or pushbuttons to inputs in the lighting

control module.

5. Infrared remote controlIn offices and meeting rooms where the lighting requirements change

frequently, wireless infrared control offers the flexibility to set the

lighting, and change it at any time.

6. PC control via IT network (TCP/IP)For high-level lighting management, the control system can be linked to

a LAN. This option gives individual users’ control over their local

working environment.

7.Telephone handset control (via PABX)To enhance individual comfort, telephones can be connected to a

lighting management system for a cost-effective way of letting users

control their local lighting.

Monitoring

8. Hours run loggingKeep track of lamp hours and produce precisely targeted relamping

schedules and detailed departmental cost allocations.

9. Emergency lighting test and monitorLighting management systems offer a reliable way to carry out statutory

testing of emergency and exit lighting, without interfering with the

normal operation of standard luminaires.

10. Current lighting statusThe ability to get a real-time view of the status of all the lights in a

building on a floor-by-floor basis enhances effective facility management.

Luminaire based and basic solutions

Occulux – Movement-dependent daylight regulationAs a combination of a state-of-the-art light sensor and a miniaturemovement detector, Occulux regulates lighting levels depending onthe amount of daylight entering a room and on occupation.Theincreasing need for flexibility means that lights often remain onunnecessarily. On the other hand, turning lights off in certain areas ofan open plan office can create an unpleasant visual impression.Occulux therefore dims light down to a minimum lighting level whenan area is unoccupied. The result is a constant, pleasant lighting levelfor office workers with a maintained adjustable minimum, enablingowners to benefit from considerable savings on energy costs of upto 50%.

Luxsense – Daylight-dependent regulation optionLuminaires with this option contain a unobtrusive light sensor, regulating light to the required level depending on the amount ofdaylight. Energy saving results from both the use of daylight and thecompensation of the over-design effect (maintained illuminance). With today’s efficient lamps and optics, the compensation of theover-design is very effective, particularly in retrofit projects.Averageenergy savings can reach up to 35%. Luxsense is also available as aseparate product for both TL5 and TL-D luminaires.

Philips intelligent luminaires – The simplest way to lighting controlTo increase comfort, energy saving and flexibility in offices, Philips hasincorporated miniature lighting controls within the luminaires.Philips Lighting offers a choice of intelligent luminaire solutions thatprovide a wide range of functions such as daylight linking, movementdetection, remote control and scene setting with energy savings ofup to 70%. Intelligent luminaires enable lighting control to be appliedin a building at any stage of a project. The sensor-controllercombination within the luminaire has little impact, or none at all, onthe electrical installation.

Omnisense – All intelligence in onePrimarily designed for cellular and smaller open plan offices,Omnisense can also be applied in other areas such as meetingrooms, toilets and storage rooms. By using the benefits of digitaltechnology, Omnisense provides 10 pre-programmed modes tomatch a variety of applications quickly and easily. Each mode includesa varies parameters such as delay times and switching behaviour. Inaddition to daylight regulation and movement detection, infraredremote control enables users to interact with their environment:switch, dim or select preset lighting levels or scenes. Omnisensefunctionality can be changed easily so that its behaviour can beadapted to new situations.

Occuswitch – Lighting control the easy wayThe Occuswitch is a very simple occupancy type controller thatprovides automatic switching of lighting loads of up to 10A.A built-inadjustable time delay allows the lights to remain on after occupancyfor a selected period of time.An optional light sensor is also built-inso that if the natural daylight conditions are sufficient the lights willnot switch on thus saving more energy.

The Occuswitch distinguishes itself in design, quality and ease ofinstallation; it is simply positioned in the middle of the room or area, the mains power supply wired directly to it and the luminaire circuitwired from it. Simplicity at its best! Occuswitch is ideally suited forthose areas that are infrequently occupied and where dimming is notrequired - such as washrooms, stores, lobbies, corridors, cellularoffices and meeting rooms.A version with manual IR remoteoverride control is also available.
