1 Important SafetyInstructions

on the product.3 Unplug this product from the wall outlet

before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleanersor aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth forcleaning.

4 Telephones should not be used while youare in a bathtub, shower or pool. Immersionof the telephone or handset in water couldcause an electrical shock.

5 Slots and openings in the cabinet back orbottom are provided for ventilation, toprotect it from overheating.These openingsmust not be blocked or covered.Theopenings should never be blocked by placingthe product on the bed, sofa, rug, or othersimilar surface.This product should not beplaced in a built-in installation unless properventilation is provided.

6 This product should be operated only fromthe type of power source indicated on themarking label. If you are not sure of the typeof power supply to your home, consult yourdealer or local power company.

7 Do not allow anything to rest on the powercord. Do not locate this product where thecord will be abused by persons walking onit.

8 Do not overload wall outlets and extensioncords as this can result in the risk of fire orelectric shock.

10 Discard dead battery(ies) as soon aspossible since dead batteries are morelikely to leak in a product.

11 Do not store this product, or thebattery(ies) provided with or identified foruse with this product, in high temperatureareas.Batteries that are stored in a freezer orrefrigerator for the purpose of extendingshelf life should be protected fromcondensation during storage and defrosting.Batteries should be stabilized at roomtemperature prior to use after cold storage.

1.4 Telephone connectionThe voltage on the network is classified as TNV-3 (Telecommunication Network Voltages, asdefined in the standard UL 60950). Following apower cut, the call in progress is lost.

1.5 Safety precautions Do not allow the handset to come into

contact with liquids or moisture. Do not open the handset, base station or

charger.This could expose you to highvoltages.

Do not allow the charging contacts of thecharger or the battery to come into contactwith extraneous conductive materials.

There is a slight chance that the telephonecould be damaged by an electrical storm. Itis recommended that users unplug thephone from the USB socket and the phoneline from the phone wall socket during astorm.

Do not use the handset in an explosivehazard area such as where there is gasleaking.

Young children should be supervised toensure that they do not play with thetelephone.

Because the phone works by sending radiosignals between the base unit and thehandset, wearers of hearing aids mayexperience interference in the form of ahumming noise.

We advise that this phone should not beused near intensive care medical equipmentor by persons with pacemakers.

Your phone can interfere with electricalequipment such as answering machines,TVand radio sets if placed too close. It isrecommended that you position the baseunit at least one meter from suchappliances.

Insert the plug of the line cord into thesocket under the base station.

Connect the other end of the line cord tothe telephone line socket and the other endof the power cable to the electricity socket.

NoteThe line adaptor may not be attached to theline cord. In this case, you have to connect theline adaptor to the line cord first beforeplugging the line cord to the line socket.

3.2 Install rechargeable batteriesYour CD445 is supplied with two rechargeablebatteries. Before using the handset, install thebatteries into the handset and fully chargedthem up.

3 Getting started

3.1 Connect the base stationCaution

Avoid placing the base station too close tolarge metal objects such as filing cabinets,radiators or electrical appliances.This canimpair the range and sound quality. Buildingswith thick internal and external walls mayimpair transmission of signals to and from thebase.

WarningPower is applied when the power adaptor isplugged into the unit and connected to theelectricity socket.The only way to power downthe unit is to unplug the power adaptor fromthe electricity socket.Therefore, ensure thatthe electricity socket is easily accessible.The power adaptor and the telephone line cordhave to be connected correctly, as incorrectconnection could damage the unit.Always use the telephone line cord suppliedwith the unit. Otherwise, you may not get a dialtone.

Insert the plug of the power cord into thesocket under the base station.

After around 30 seconds, your phone will goback to WELCOME screen for you to selectthe country again.

3.5 How to power off or on thehandset power

You can power off your handset in order tosave battery power.

Place the batteries as indicated in thebattery compartment and replace thebattery cover.

3.3 Place the handset on the chargingcradle

When the battery is fully charged, the talk timeof your phone is approximately 12 hours andthe standby time is approximately 150 hours.

3.4 Configure your phoneDepending on your country, the WELCOMEscreen may not appear. In that case, you do notneed to select the country code to configureyour phone.Before using your phone, you need to configureit according to the country of use.Aftercharging it for a few minutes, the WELCOMEscreen appears. Follow these steps to configureyour phone :

Press to confirm your selection Your phone is configured according to your

selected country and back to idle screen.Note

Once the country is selected, the default linesettings for the selected country will be appliedto your phone automatically.

TipIf you chose the country in use wrongly orwould like to change the country after the firstconfiguration, you can press in idle mode toenter into the main menu, then input ##**793to reset to default settings.

TipInstead of pressing or to browse thephonebook entries, press the numeric keycorresponding to the first letter of thephonebook entry that you wish to locate. Forexample, pressing once will show the entriesstarting with A. Pressing twice will show theentries starting with B.

4.1.5 Call from the redial list

In idle mode :Press to access the redial list

The display shows the last number dialled orthe name if the dialled number is matched withnumber that stored in the phonebook.Press / to scroll to your desiredentryPress to dial the number


TipThe handset stores the last 10 numbers dialed.The last number dialed will appear first in theredial list. If the redial number matches aphonebook entry, the phonebook name will bedisplayed instead.

4.1.6 Call timerThe call timer shows the duration of yourcurrent call when you hang up your phone. It isshown in minutes and seconds format (MM:SS).

4.2 Answer a callWhen the phone rings, press . The call is established.

4.5.1 How to make a second call

You can press and / to selectSWITCH CALL or CONFERENCE toswitch calls between the first and second callsor to make a conference call.

4.5.2 How to answer a second callTo use this feature, you have to subscribe theservice with your local service provider. Ifanother call comes in during a call, you will heara short beep periodically :During displaying caller ID, press and / to select functions to accept orreject the second call.

NoteAfter accepting the second call, you can press

and / to select SWITCH CALL orCONFERENCE to switch calls between thefirst and second calls or to make a conferencecall.

NoteIf you have subscribed the Caller ID service, thecaller ID of your callers will appear on thedisplay.

4.6 How to use the intercomThis feature is only available when there are atleast two registered handsets. It allows you tomake internal calls, transfer external calls fromone handset to another handset and makeconference calls.

4.3 Answer a call in handsfree modeWhen the phone rings, press .

The call is established and is on.You cantalk to the caller without holding the handset.

WarningWhen the handset rings during an incoming call,please do not hold the handset too close toyour ear as the volume of the ringing tone maydamage your hearing.

NoteIncoming call has priority over other events.Whenever there is an incoming call, other statusin progress such as phone settings, menunavigation, etc will be aborted.

TipIf auto pick-up mode is activated, you can lift upthe handset from its base station to answer thecall.

4.4 End a callPress during a call connection The call ends.ORPut the handset on to the base station The call ends.

4.5 RecallTo use this feature, you have to subscribe theservice with your local service provider.You can use the recall function to make orreceive a second call.The operations mentionedin Section 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 may be varied bycountries and local service providers. Consultthe details of recall operation of this servicefrom your local service provider.

Your CD445 includes a telephone answeringmachine that records unanswered calls when it ison.The LED message counter (two digits sevensegment display) on the base will show the numberof the messages when the answering machine is on.The answering machine can store up to 99messages within the maximum recording time ofapproximately 15 minutes.

Try switching off the power at the mainsocket, and then turn it on again after1 minute.
