SENIORS & COMPUTERSAs we Silver Surfers know, sometimes we have trouble

with our computers.Yesterday, I had a problem, so I called Georgie, the 11 year old next door, whose bedroom looks like Mission Control, and asked him to come over.

Georgie clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem. As he was walking away, I called after him, 'So, what was wrong?

He replied, 'It was an ID ten T error.'I didn't want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired,

'An, ID ten T error? What's that? In case I need to fix it again.'Georgie grinned. 'Haven't you ever heard of an ID ten T error before?

'No,' I replied.'Write it down,' he said, 'and I think you'll figure it out.'

So I wrote down:

I used to like Georgie, the little shithead.

Binay’s Lower Ratings

VP Binay’s lower voter preference ratings have primarily beenattributed to his reluctance to directly address plunder and graftcharges filed against him

That demand for explanation has been growingThe masses don’t care – “Everyone does it, anyway”

They see a candidate that has the potential to replicate Makati’ssuccess throughout the country—and he gives cakes

He appeals to the grassroots – Boy Scouts, Makati’s sister Cities,OFWs and their families, and the previously homeless families

Roxas’ Ratings Have Been Improving

Now able to give Poe and Binay a fight

He has been struggling to reverse a lackluster image that justwasn’t drawing the crowds. Will Aquino’s endorsement changethat?

A technocrat pretending to be pro‐masses. He could no longersell the “Mr. Palengke” (public market) image that took him tothe top of 2004 senatorial polls. He needs something else

There’s nothing derogatory against him (his lack of decisivenessis not known to the general public). But he doesn’t haveempathy with the masses, he just doesn’t click

Roxas’ Ratings…

He’s a decent, honest man — no scandal has ever been attached to him.

He has long senior public service experience He should be the one

“He  has an unblemished record” ‐ AquinoIndeed he has – he’s done nothing “blemishable”

WWW.WALLACEBUSINESSFORUM.COMGPCCI BRIEFING NOV. 12, 2015 22

Yes – forget Miriam and 120 other Charlatans

Without Duterte:

Sen. Grace Poe will get the popular vote

VP Jojo Binay will get LGU influence

Sec. Mar Roxas will get the full government machine

It will be a close callIf Duterte joins he could be the one to beat

WWW.WALLACEBUSINESSFORUM.COMGPCCI BRIEFING NOV. 12, 2015 23

That too is a close call

In the worst case, what we have is:

A president who brings government to a standstill through inaction; or

A president who revives the ‘trapo’ tradition in a dynastic way; or

An inexperienced president who makes too many innocent gaffes; or

A maverick that could impose unacceptable constraints

The consequences are disturbing – at best

A president who is honest, ethical, hardworking and recognizes the need to be a risk‐taker; or

A president who lays the family aside, forgoes political obligations and just get things done; or

A president who appoints a highly experienced cabinet, listens to them and acts forthrightly on their advice; or

A president that revolutionizes society to be better

The worst of it all – no one hasany idea which way it will go

WWW.WALLACEBUSINESSFORUM.COMGPCCI BRIEFING NOV. 12, 2015 34

What we need is ‐

Someone who can work with Congress; Roxas is weak here.

Someone who understands business; Poe and to a lesser extent, Binay and Duterte, are weak.

Someone who can negotiate on the international level – and understand the ramifications. None has shown any aptitude.

Someone who can empathize with and do something for the masses. Binay and Duterte shine here with Grace not too far behind. Mar is on a different level.

WWW.WALLACEBUSINESSFORUM.COMGPCCI BRIEFING NOV. 12, 2015 35

What we need is ‐

Someone who understands economics and the importance of applyingit to policy‐making. Mar should, but will he?.

Someone who will give back agriculturethe importance it needs. No one, maybe Duterte.

Someone who is technically savvy and visionary. Mar may be a bit ahead. But none really understands the massive change that is occurring in the world.

Someone who is prepared to “damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.”Make the revolutionary changes needed. Duterte and maybe, surprisingly, Poe. She’s new to the game so no entrenched thinking, not the “analysis‐paralysis” likely under Roxas or trapo continuation of Binay.

WWW.WALLACEBUSINESSFORUM.COMGPCCI BRIEFING NOV. 12, 2015 36

The thing most going for the Philippinestoday is that it’s politically stable

We do not see an upset to the established democratic system

There may be some upset at the security level – the Muslims in Mindanao aren’t happy

But it can’t threaten national stability

The economy is sufficiently diverseand domestically

WWW.WALLACEBUSINESSFORUM.COMGPCCI BRIEFING NOV. 12, 2015 37

As this president did by banning mining

All support mining, although Mar is a slight risk But in other areas? Who knows?

They all understand, to varying degrees, the role of the private sector in an open market as being the
