Philip Greene – Biography and Notable Events Philip Greene is an attorney, writer and cocktail historian. He is Trademark and Internet Counsel to the U.S. Marine Corps, based at the Pentagon. He has also presented multiple times for Smithsonian Associates in Washington, D.C., and has done events for the Washington Shakespeare Theatre, the Key West Art & Historical Society, the Hemingway Society, the International F. Scott Fitzgerald Society, the O.S.S. Society, the University of Louisville Cocktail Conference, the Washington Ballet, the Morgan Museum and Library in NYC, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, and other notable institutions. Philip is also on the Board of Directors of the National Food & Beverage Foundation, and the Museum of the American Cocktail’s Founders Board, both based in New Orleans. He has also served as a Brand Ambassador for Peychaud’s Aperitivo, as well as for Domaine de Canton French Ginger Liqueur (which he helped launch to great success in 2008-10), and he offers consulting services for the bar and restaurant trade. He has also performed a series of entertaining cocktail seminars for the Greater Palm Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau, from coast to coast, and has done consulting and design work for Carpano Antica Formula vermouth. In his legal career, Phil held the position of InternetNZ Senior Research Fellow in Cyberlaw in 2007, during which he taught Internet and intellectual property law at Victoria University School of Law in Wellington, New Zealand. In that capacity, he also published two major papers and engaged in numerous public speaking engagements and radio and press interviews. He’s also served as Vice President and President of the Government Intellectual Property Law Association. In 2015, Greene received the Department of the Navy’s Intellectual Property Achievement Award as the Navy’s top IP attorney for the year. He lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife and three daughters.

Mr. Greene also hosted a Spirited Dinner at Dickie Brennan’s Steak House in New Orleans, focusing on the history and folklore of the Manhattan Cocktail, the topic of Mr. Greene’s second book. Both events are part of the prestigious festival, Tales of the Cocktail, in New Orleans. Mr. Greene and the chef created a menu featuring five courses matched with five historic and delicious cocktails. With each course, Mr. Greene gave a brief history of the drink, and described how to make it at home. The dinner was sold out, 60 very happy customers. May 31, 2016, presented a 60 minute PPT seminar with sample cocktails on the history and folklore of the Manhattan cocktail, as part of the launch of the book, The Manhattan: The Story of the First Modern Cocktail (with recipes), published by Sterling Epicure. April 12, 2016, presented a 90 minute PPT seminar with sample cocktails, a look at the food and drink popular during the American Civil War. August, 2006, co-presented (with Chris McMillian) a seminar on classic New Orleans cocktails, Tales of the Cocktail, New Orleans. August, 2005, co-presented (with Ted Haigh, Robert Hess, and Stanley Schwam) a seminar on the history and use of cocktail bitters, Tales of the Cocktail, New Orleans. June, 2005, produced and presented three Museum of the American Cocktail seminars on the classic cocktails of New Orleans, at Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Washington, DC (at three locations, Bethesda, MD, Crystal City, VA, and Dupont Circle, DC). August, 2004, presented a seminar on the life of Antoine A. Peychaud, 19th century New Orleans pharmacist, and the creation of the Sazerac Cocktail, Tales of the Cocktail, New Orleans.
