Tom Wilson and Brett Connolly scored in the first period and then the Capsscored three times in just over two minutes early in the second to take the 5-0 advantage. The Flyers tried to mount a comebackstarting with the first NHL goal for Philippe Myers with 12 seconds left in the second, followed by a goal from Claude Giroux 10seconds into the third and another tally from Scott Laughton at the 7:48 mark. But they couldn’t get anything else past Brayden Holtby,who made 27 saves. Brian Elliott started and made 15 saves on 19 shots in 24:18 before stepping aside for Cam Talbot, who turnedaway 15 of 16 the rest of the way. The Flyers ogt on the board 1:03 into the second on a goal by James van Riemsdyk, but the second goal fromConnolly followed by one from Tom Wilson gave the Caps a 4-1 lead by the game’s halfway point. Scott Laughton cut the lead to twowith 7:38 left in the second, but the Flyers couldn’t get anything else past Braden Holtby, who took the win with 22 saves. Washingtoniced the game with a late empty-netter. Carter Hart returned to action for the first time since February 21 and made 27 saves on 31shots faced. The Bruins eventually answered with third period goals from Danton Heinen and Brad Marchand, and after Hartstopped a David Pastrnak penalty shot with 4:56 to play, the game proceeded to the shootout. Farabee’s goal came in the first round,and Hart clinched it with another stop on Pastrnak in the third round. Alain Vigneault was named the 21st head coach in Flyers history on April 15, 2019.Vigneault, 58, brings 1,216 games of experience as an NHL head coach to Philadelphia over parts of 16 seasons. He served as the headcoach of the New York Rangers for five seasons (2013-18), the Vancouver Canucks for seven seasons (2006-13) and the Montreal Canadiensfor parts of four seasons (1997-2000).
