I take great pride and pleasure in introducing you to the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) Class of 2018 at the S. P. Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR).SPJIMR consistently ranks among the top 10 business schools in India. 1. All our students have deep functional expertise, with more than five years of experience in renowned companies.2. The programme inputs enable them to connect the dots, see cross-functional linkages and realize that there are no operations or technology or marketing problems, but business problems with functional dimensions.3. Inputs in areas such as analytics and digital technologies are not only taught as separate courses, but also embedded in multiple core courses, thus creating students who are ready to succeed in the world of ‘digital business’.4. Courses in areas such as design thinking and systems thinking prepare them to deal with ambiguity and solve complex unstructured problems.5. Innovation and Design Thinking. He holds a BTech from IIT Bombay, an MBA from IIM Calcutta and a PhD in Management from the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota, USA.

Dr. Banerjee is a renowned eloquent orator, a voracious reader, an avid quizzer and a thought leader with compelling emphasis on value for values.

Our unique PGPM offering focusses on enhancing the functional and managerial capabilities, thereby ensuring that the candidates are equipped to appreciate cross-functional linkages and thus prepare for learned decision making at middle management level and beyond. At SPJIMR, we lay emphasis on honing skills with a unique three-pronged approach of Knowing (Knowledge), Doing (Skills) and Being (Attitude) framework. Though due importance is given to classroom learning, substantial effort is made to build suitable stimuli by leveraging non-classroom learning.

management roles and increased propensity of candidates to seek

Recognizing increasing need of industry for ‘Thought Leaders’ at middle management level, SPJIMR offers Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM), which is a ‘One Year Full-Time Residential Program’.

PGPM is approved by ‘All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)’ and is accredited by the ‘Association of MBAs U.K (AMBA)’.

SPJIMR has been a trendsetter in aligning its priorities with evolution of industry requirements. PGPM programme prepares the candidates to be fully geared to lead organizations during this period of transition. The programme commences with a unique 3 months blended web learning module followed by a 12 months full-time residential component. As a career accelerator, the programme leverages participants’ past experiences and aims to create and nurture value-based future leaders with an enhanced management perspective. The programme in its fourteenth year has consistently challenged the paradigm of conventional courses for working executives.

Participants reap the benefits of SPJIMR’s globally acclaimed and award winning value-based leadership development modules. The curriculum is tailor made to lay greater emphasis on interpersonal awareness, critical and integrative thinking, and ethical responsibility.

BLENDED WEB LEARNINGThe three month online pre-foundation module from Harvard Business School, covers basic management courses, which prepares the participants for the extensive twelve month on campus academic rigor.

COURSE OF INDEPENDENT STUDY (CIS)During the specialization phase of the programme, PGPM participants undertake CIS projects or assignments with several companies. This provides participants with a unique opportunity to augment their domain knowledge and bring into practice learnings from the programme. Participants work closely with the industry to devise solutions for real-life problems, thereby getting a fresh perspective on business best practices.

With a lot of pride, I introduce you to the 14th batch of Post Graduate Program in

Management (PGPM), at SPJIMR. The batch is an eclectic mix of 136 participants with

an average work experience of 6.4 years. They come from diverse industries such as

Information Technology, Banking, Financial Services, Oil and Gas, Construction, Power,

Manufacturing, Consulting and FMCG. The students leverage their experience to extract

the learning opportunity provided at SPJIMR from faculty and peers.

At SPJIMR, we provide students with a 15 month holistic learning platform which equips

them with advanced business skills, critical thinking and thought leadership. At the

inception of the program, participants go through personal growth lab which instills team

spirit along with the ability to handle alien situations. Our students are one of the few in

the country to study Design Thinking as part of their curriculum which hones out of the

box thinking. They learn Science of Spirituality which gives them a balanced perspective

in professional and personal environment. Students also spend two weeks in rural areas

across the country as a part of Development of Corporate Citizenship (DOCC) program,

which not only helps them manage problems in an unstructured environment but also

brings them closer to understanding the society.

We encourage our participants to challenge themselves to excel in a fast changing world.

With digital revolution transforming the industry landscape, there is a call for managers

who not only embrace the change but also lead it. Our students are agile with strong

business acumen to adapt themselves to these evolving industrial needs. They are driven

by a sense of purpose and determination who do not give up in the face of challenges.

Prof. Prem Chandrani, Chairperson PGPM and professor in strategy and finance at SPJIMR has

over 4 decades of work experience in industry and management consulting. His experience

spreads across Australia, Canada, India, Japan, Middle East, UK and USA. His key areas of

interest include business strategy, corporate finance, management consulting, risk management

and financial & management accounting. He holds an MBA from London Business School, UK

and is an active member of ICWAI, ICAI, ICMA, UK and ISACA, USA.

Prof. Abbasalli Gabula, Associate Director - External relations & Administration has over 3 decades of experience in industry and academia. He is a Mechanical Engineering graduate and MBA (Marketing) from IMD Business School, Switzerland. Working in principal roles, he had set up and transformed diverse businesses through his exemplary entrepreneurial and visionary leadership style. He is also a long-time expert in executing strategies by building relationships with all stakeholders of business. At SPJIMR, he looks after establishing and maintaining external relations with corporate, alumni and media.

Prof Nilendra Singh Pawar, Associate Professor in

Operations and Supply Chain at SPJIMR, has over

20 years of experience in industry and academia.

He is a Chemical Engineering graduate from IIT

Roorkee and post graduate in management from

IIM Lucknow. Prior to joining SPJIMR, he has

handled various assignments in Supply Chain

Management and Business Development with

Asian Paints, Kohler India and Aditya Birla Fashion

and Retail.

I am delighted to introduce SPJIMR’s prestigious Post

Graduate Programme in Management, or PGPM, our

15-month intensive programme for professionals who

have worked for over five years and then enrolled for an

MBA to fast-track their career. In the PGPM Class of 2018,

you’ll find participants who are curious, engaged and ready

to take on responsibilities in a business environment that

is changing fast. You’ll find our candidates well equipped

to negotiate business problems and also offer meaningful

ideas and perspectives on broader societal issues that can

have an impact on growth. I look forward to personally

in your company.

Our PGPM students join the course after significant

work experience in good organizations. Their decision to

invest in education is a testament to their determination

to excel.

As a result, when they take up managerial assignments,

they hit the ground running. Besides functional

excellence, they display strong interpersonal skills,

maturity in managing stakeholders and an ability

navigate through organizational processes.

Dr. Anjali Malik is Professor at SPJIMR in Marketing.

She holds a doctorate from University Business School

(UBS), Chandigarh. Her research work focused on

consumer behaviour, technology and marketing has

been published in category journals such as International

Journal of Electronic Business, International Journal of

Business and Emerging Markets, International Journal

of Indian Culture and Business, South Asian Journal of

Management and Metamorphosis (Journal of IIM-L).

She is also empaneled as a Certified Peer Reviewer with

Association of Management Development Institutes in

South Asia (AMDISA) for South Asian Quality Standards

(SAQS) Accreditation.

PGPM students having worked in industry for over 5 years

show tremendous amount of courage and clarity in uprooting

themselves, moving out of the known to seek new challenges

and truly transform themselves. The current PGPM batch

consists of more than one hundred bright and intelligent

professionals – with each one of them having the capability and

attitude to drive positive change. Our students are inquisitive,

highly motivated, cognizant of value-based leadership and

ride high on compassion, empathy and sympathy. The PGPM

programme embeds in our students the significance of

transition from ‘Me to We’ and from ‘I to Us’.

Assessment and Development of Managerial and Administrative Potential (ADMAP): Objective: Lay down the foundation of difference between management and administration for effective leadership.Outcome: Interactive classroom sessions using role play, case studies, Harvard simulation and reflective exercises to provide future managers with insights into probable administrative headwinds and possible ways of addressing them.

Development of Corporate Citizenship (DOCC): Objective: Working to improve efficiency of NGOs across the country by providing voluntary on-site services through projects and campaigns.Outcome: Delivering solutions in an unstructured business environment. This experience engrains humility and social sensitivity in the participants.

Personal Growth Lab: Objective: To understand and imbibe the transition from “Me to We”. This outbound is aimed at augmenting team building and hence interpersonal growth.Outcome: Three day off-site experience including personal psychometric assessment, outdoor activities and team challenges helping participants improve collaboration and effectiveness in teams.

are increasingly taking on new responsibilities and

PGPM 2018 celebrated International Women’s Day

on 8th March, 2018 to array diversity and recognize

the significance of women leaders in our society.

Importance of health and fitness was underlined

by the event, wherein women PGPM participants

organized and took part in an early morning

marathon followed by cohesive yoga sessions,

propagating vigor amidst academic rigor.

An in house consulting competition ‘Business meets Consulting’ – #Dhandha is the flagship fest

organized by Family Managed Business (FMB) programme

at SPJIMR. FMB participants bring their real life business

problems on the table which is taken up by PGPM students

as consulting cases as an in house competition. PGPM

participants apply their consulting skills and domain

knowledge to live business cases, and help FMB participants

in their outlook to grow business. Out of over 30 cases, top 3

bag consulting prize.

This annual gala is an amalgamation of learning coupled

with consulting competition and cultural performances. The

fest brings together FMB and PGPM participants, making it a

The Information Management (IM) cohort of PGPM 2018 is

comprised of professionals with average work experience of 6.5

years. IM students come from diverse functional backgrounds

with expertise in IT strategy, business analytics, consulting,

data analysis, product/software development & management,

project management, quality assurance and risk & compliance

across multiple domains including BFSI, telecom, life sciences &

healthcare, energy and utility, SAP/ERP, IT services and automotive.

Students also have knowledge and hands-on experience in evolving

technologies such as Enterprise Mobility, Cloud Services, ERP,

Business Intelligence etc.

The IM specialization gives each student tremendous opportunities

for career acceleration. International immersion at McCombs

School of Business at the University of Texas, Austin, USA helps

in strengthening the knowledge of changing IT landscapes and

emerging technologies. Course of independent study and live

projects help them gain real-life experience in solving complex and

unstructured business challenges. IM students from PGPM class

of 2018 have worked on live projects with Yes Bank, Crisil, GVK and

Greenwave Solutions Pvt Ltd.

Business Consulting Club and Business Technology Club along with

industry integration initiatives facilitate peer learning and provide

an understanding of industry trends and extend opportunities

The SPJIMR family celebrated SPJIMR Day on 17th

April, 2018, marking the day 37 years ago when Rt.

Hon. Margaret Thatcher laid the foundation stone of

the Institute.

At the SPJIMR campus, the traditional cake cutting

ceremony was preceded by a student painting

competition, where ten paintings were displayed, of

which three were awarded and would be a part of

the SPJIMR gallery. The paintings depicted innovative

takes on Courage.Heart.
