Core Courses Description
SCM-701Fundamentals of Supply Chain ManagementFundamentals of supply chain management addresses the most fundamental concepts and best practices of supply chain management. It provides a structured description of all the most important components in the topic area, and supports it by many real-world leading edge company cases. It is particularly suitable for those who want to make a rm grasp of the subject at a master degree level. At the completion of this course, the student should know a complete cycle of supply chain, topics and terms used in this eld and the areas of specialization for the completion of the degree.
SCM-702Supplier Selection and Bid EvaluationSelecting the right supplier is the fundamental basis for eective purchasing & supply. Alternative suppliers must be located, screened, further researched and assessed using appropriate criteria that relate to the type of purchase that is being carried out. This will involve reviewing suppliers' motivation and capabilities, including their nancial situation. Purchasing & supply practice means knowing how to best obtain and select oers from suppliers. Depending on the type of purchase being made, dierent purchasing approaches and processes will be used (ranging from simple informal contacts to formal tendering in public sector). The method of evaluating oers will also vary depending on what is being bought.
SCM-703Negotiating, Contracting and Law in Procurement and Supply ChainThe contract species the buyer's and seller's main obligations, and determines the overall context under which the business relationship will be developed. It is
important to understand which terms and conditions relate to the desired type of contractual relationship, and how to deal with issues such as applicable law, contractual default and the settlement of disputes. Once a contract is signed, it is important to ensure its eective implementation and to successfully manage the relationship with suppliers. The various issues involved in managing the contract in an international trade agreement must be understood, as well as the roles and responsibilities of each side's contract management team. No contract is complete unless it is supported with legal obligations. To keep this in mind, the aspects of Law and taught in this course to enable students to be protected in dealing with local and international counterparts.
SCM-704Business Research Methods – Focus on SCMBahria University has developed a strong, in house, research system. This is established through the preparation of Red and Blue books, specially designed for research. No research is complete unless it is prepared and defended in the spirits dened in those books. The Red and Blue research books are prepared to provide students with course material and procedures to prepare Research Proposal and conduct Research Thesis. Two of the regular PhD members of Management Sciences team are devoted to teach and support students in their research topics and decision making techniques based on their research.
SCM-705Inventory and Logistics OperationsThis topic focuses on the techniques that can be applied to achieve the availability of inventories through the ow of material and information. The operational signicance of logistics for many companies still lies in its rationalization potential. A reduction of logistics costs should improve corporate success by achieving a competitive advantage. Surveys of businesses have
demonstrated that companies are still counting on a considerable cost reduction potential. The scope of logistics in recent years has continually expanded to include production planning and control systems, also known as quality control. In addition, signicant investments are being made in IT technology in supply chain management planning that will lead to a decrease in administrative logistics costs.
SCM-706Operation & Warehousing ManagementOperation management refers to the process of converting input resources into the outputs of products or services that occur across a wide range of sectors such as in manufacturing, construction, retail, service and public sectors. This course is designed to involve procurement and supply to appraise that main techniques that improve organizational operations. Operations Management deals with the design and management of products, processes, services and supply chains. It considers the acquisition, development, and utilization of resources that rms need to deliver the goods and services their clients want. Warehousing and Operations go hands in hand. The product before distribution has to be stored and organized before shipping it out. Then the ratio of production and warehousing availability plays an important factor in management of supply chain.
SCM-707Contemporary Issues in Supply Chain ManagementThe growing importance of China and India, along with rapidly rising fuel prices, have caused some rms to begin to re-examine their manufacturing processes and the congurations of their supply chains. There are dierent ways of managing supplies for your business. The main areas that are covered in this subject deal with E-procurement, Environmental Procurement and Group Purchases. The pros and cons of such procurements
enable the manager to reduce the cost of production and shipment to the customer. This subject will modify along with the developments in the new methods of supply chain.
SCM-708Strategic Supply Chain ManagementEectiveness of Supply Chain is perhaps the single largest advantage an organization can have over its competitors. As such current, relevant and reliable information on the performance of Supply Chain must be available to the decision makers. The major dimensions for evaluating the performance of supply chain processes and activities are time, cost, quality and compliance. This course covers the strategic supply chain management of companies involved in protably coordinating supply and demand in the marketplace to deliver consumer value. It introduces several concepts of strategic importance in performance measurement in supply chains and links it with other management functions.
SCM-709Supply Chain FinanceThe most important factor in any business is the amount of Finance that you have to play with. The more the eective use of this resource, the better the system works.
