relation to hedonism
Some of the music that tyler produces explores are suppressed human emotions. These are personal feelings
that comes from his personal life and/or animalistic natures of people. Tyler himself, or from what I’ve seen
through interviews; is generally a positive and playful person. But when it comes to his music, he explores
some temptations and thoughts that people usually suppress.
One aspect of his personal life in which he explores is his father. His father was not there for him and had
left him and his mother at an early age. This explores the importance of parental gures and the impact this
has on children. Tyler’s song Inglorious from the album Goblin says:
My father died the day I came out of my mother’s hole. And left a burden on my soul until I was old enoughto understand, that the fucking faggot didn’t like me much. He loved my moms enough to bust a nut and
then he shake Junt.
Another characteristic that Tyler explores is the animalistic nature of human beings. Humans, in relation
to animals, are here to reproduce and survive. To supress our sexual desires, murderous intentions, and
temptations is one way that society has molded people to live peacefully and respectfully. When it comes to
Tyler’s music, he doesn’t suppress any thoughts. Women are viewed as sexual objects and rape and murder
comes instinctively.
Tyler is a great example of hedonism because both share the viewpoint that pleasure is the only intrinsic
good. Also, he can be related to Epicurus, who was an atomic materialist. Epicurus’ materialism has led
him to a general stance against superstition and divine int ervention. In relation to Epicurus, Tyler is an
Atheist and has included many insults against religion in his music.

The man on the cover of Goblin is Buffalo Bill. A description from Wikipedia states this as his philosophy:
As a frontier scout, he respected Native Americans and supported their rights. He employed many more na-
tives than Sitting Bull, as he thought his show offered them good pay for a better life. He called t hem “the
former foe, present friend, the American”, and once said, “Every Indian outbreak that I have ever known

Buffalo Bill also supported the rights of women. He said, “What we want to do is give women even more
liberty than they have. Let them do any kind of work they see t, and if they do it as well as men, give them
the same pay.”

analysis
A coworker of mine had once brought up an interesting point about poverty. Her belief was that poverty
can be viewed as a state of mind, as some people i n poverty stricken areas has a limited point of vi ew on
life. Rather than saving up and striving for a better quality of life, some people would spend money on
materialistic things and constantly stay at the same level. They are always surrounded by struggle, despair,
and violence and in turn, that lifestyle becomes their playground.
In some aspects, I have to agree with this. Violence and credibility is often sought after in some less fortu-
nate areas and this could lead some people astray. In relation to this song, Billy Jacobs gloried a violent
lifestyle. Whether it was the community around him that inuenced his thoughts or the lack of aspiration
towards a better life, he was constantly at the same level as his peers. This lead Billy to behave violently
and the outcome of his actions eventually lead to his suicide.

The events of Ms. Genovese are subject to dispute. Certain accounts suggest that Ms. Genovese’s cries for help were heard and ignored by numerous residents at the apartment. Other ac-
counts, as detailed below, suggest that residents did not hear her pleas and/or did provide assistance. What exactly happened is unknown.
Genovese had driven home from her job working as a bar manager early in the morning of March 13, 1964. Arriving home at about 3:15 a.m. she parked in the Long Island Rail Road parking
lot about 100 feet (30 m) from her apartment’s door, located in an alley way at the rear of the building. As she walked towards the building she was approached by Winston Moseley. Fright-
ened, Genovese began to run across the parking lot and towards the front of her building located on Austin Street trying to make it up to the corner towards the major thoroughfare of Lefferts
Boulevard. However, Moseley, who ran after her, quickly overtook her and stabbed her twice in the back. Genovese screamed, “Oh my God, he stabbed me! Help me!” Her cry was heard byseveral neighbors but, on a cold night with the windows closed, only a few of them recognized the sound as a cry for help. When Robert Mozer, one of the neighbors, shouted at the attacker,
“Let that girl alone!” Moseley ran away and Genovese slowly made her way toward the rear entrance of her apartment building. She was seriously injured, but now out of view of those few
who may have had reason to believe she was in need of help.
Records of the earliest calls to police are unclear and were certainly not given a high priority by the police. One witness said his father called police after the initial attack and reported that a
woman was “beat up, but got up and was staggering around.”
Other witnesses observed Moseley enter his car and drove away only to return ten minutes later. In his car, he changed to a wide-brimmed hat to shadow his face. He systematically searched
the parking lot, train station, and an apartment complex. Eventually, he found Genovese who was lying, barely conscious, in a hallway at the back of the building where a locked doorway
had prevented her from entering the building. Out of view of the street and of those who may have heard or seen any sign of the original attack, he proceeded to further attack her, stabbing
her several more times. Knife wounds in her hands suggested that she attempted to defend herself from him. While she lay dying, he raped her. He stole about $49 from her and left her in the
hallway. The attacks spanned approximately half an hour.
Afew minutes after the nal attack a witness, Karl Ross, called the police. Police arrived within minutes of Ross’call. Genovese was taken away by ambulance at 4:15 am and died en route
to the hospital. Later investigation by police and prosecutors revealed that approximately a dozen (but almost certainly not the 38 cited in the Times article) individuals nearby had heard or
observed portions of the attack, though none saw or were aware of t he entire incident. Only one witness, Joseph Fink, was aware she was stabbed in the rst attack, and only Karl Ross was
aware of it in the second attack. Many were entirely unaware that an assault or homicide was in progress; some thought that what they saw or heard was a lovers’ quarrel or a drunken brawl
or a group of friends leaving the bar when Moseley rst approached Genovese

Wang, who was two years old, wandered away from her home in Foshan while her mother was quickly
collecting laundry during a thunderstorm, and walked into a narrow, busy market street. Closed-circuit
television cameras captured the child in the street as a van ran over her with its front wheels. The van driver
paused, but did not get out. After a moment, he drove on, his rear wheels then also crushing Wang’s body.
At least 18 people subsequently walked past and failed to assist her, some pausing to stare before moving
on. A large truck also ran over her without stopping. She was eventually helped by a female rubbish scav-
enger, Chen Xianmei. Wang’s parents Wang Chichang and Qu Feifei chose not to blame anyone besides
themselves for their daughter’s death. Qu said “Granny Chen represents the best of human nature, it’s the
nicest and most natural side of us.” The drivers of both vehicles were detained by police in the days after
the incident.
