Main ideas/detailsGreat examples from classmates:

Some people think they are so tough, but one book can make them cry like a baby. Someone who is sad all the time can read a book, and the next thing you know, they are rolling on the ground with laughter! Books can change you, make you feel happy, sad, or angry. If you feel mad, go read a book book. It will cheer you up.

Another reason why dogs are better than cats is that they can guard your house. When robbers come to your house, your dogs bark. Some that are trained will even go and bite the robbers! When they bark, it will wake you up so you don’t have to worry about your things getting stolen. How about cats? All they do is sleep, and they don’t even realize what is going on!

Every paragraph should have one

main idea (reason). The main ideas are

underlines!

And every sentence in that paragraph (details) should

connect to your main idea!!

Dialogue“Ouch!! My calf hurts a lot!”

screamed Holly.“Well, there is nothing we can do

about it unless someone adds another elevator, “ Sophie whispered.

“Well, THAT’S a great idea!!!” Holly hollered. Everyone glanced at her, wondering what had happened.

New paragraph every time someone different speaks!

Long, long, loooooooong sentences!?!I think people should all go out and buy a pet monkey, because they are smart animals and when you train them, they can help you with your chores, so you won’t be so tired anymore.

This

sentence is

NOT okay!!!

Don’t have more than one conjunction (but, so, then, and, etc.) in a sentence!!
