Empathy used in business.

You represent the voice of the company so here are some hints that may prove useful:

You must listen and find balance between your level of interaction.

Don’t give the impression that time is too critical for you. Rushing through an interview will give the candidate the impression that you really are going through the motions. Leave a candidate with the want and need to work for your company.

Observe voice tones that reflect interest, keenness, passion and feelings. These are critical to complement your team.

Your candidate has a name addressing them by their name is a useful tool to gain confidence.

Pay attention to your level of eye contact, body posture and voice tones. These traits are not just for the candidate.

If you want the best results apply intonation in a way that the candidate senses that you are curious and genuine in approach.

Leave your candidate feeling that they have a chance, do not leave them feeling that they have been unsuccessful in anyway. Doubt can produce a very negative outcome and can lead to you loosing a candidate to a competitor.

Keep their interest in your company, try and generate a situation where they will wait to be told if they were successful or not.

Asking for an opinion

• In your opinion, what personality traits do you think you need to complement a team?

• How important is social media to you?

• Do you think social media interaction should be important from a company perspective?

• How important are team dynamics to you?

• What would you do if a team member had a personal issue that prevented them from working to the best of their abilities?

• I can see that you have a balance between your educational background and your experience, can you recall a specific occasion where you have had to rely on a combination of these two factors to reach a successful outcome?

• Do you have a hobby or interest that you pursue in your personal time?
