Ever feel like this?
Who am I?
The dreaded question…
Well, just pick one…
Not that easy?!
So, how DO people decide what they want to be when they grow
up?!
As quick as you can!Don’t over-think these!
“Personality is to a man what perfume
is to a flower.” ~Charles M. Schwab
Don’t worry… Don’t worry… we all have a personality!we all have a personality!
This mini-assessment does NOT measure…
Stress Emotions Maturity
Intelligence Psychiatric Disturbance
Career Potential Level of Skill
This mini-assessment DOES tell you about…
Your PREFERRED way of thinking and behaving
Understanding your preferences can help you…
Be more successful Deal with other people better Contribute more to a team Reduce stress Enjoy work more Get more out of your life
This is not about ability or This is not about ability or “being” something or not…“being” something or not…
This is about PREFERENCES!
Let’s try this to illustrate my point: Give me your autograph!
It doesn’t mean you can’t, it just means you prefer…
The farther to one side or the other (E or I, S or N, etc.) the more strongly you identify with that letter. It also indicates that it is harder for you to identify with the opposite letter.
What if you fall in the middle? This means you are equally divided between the two and they are of equal strength for you; the advantage of equal scores is that you can relate well to both sides, the disadvantage is that it may cause confusion at times.
We tend to be attracted to our opposites. We also tend to least understand our opposites – this is our biggest challenge!
If we begin to understand what makes us act, feel, and make decisions as we do, it possible to know our strengths and weaknesses.
If we can understand ourselves – then we can begin to understand, predict, and appreciate how someone else may behave and make decisions.

Looking for work or being between jobs can be a period of down time
Being at home, having less social contact than being with coworkers, and have more time for solitude
This method would probably appeal to introverts
Time to network with others is also valuable
Find themselves more energized with the phone calling or networking meetings… a time to be with people
This method would appeal to extroverts
Time to reflect alone is also valuable
I - Introversion E - Extroversion
Generally embrace this time to imagine or create the possibilities
Consider career redesign, career change or consider entrepreneurship
Dreamers
The mind is a powerful thing
Drawn to openings that exist and are in the newspaper, online and heard of through word of mouth
These people obtain their information by seeing it and hearing about it
They trust their senses and can discern it as factual and real
N- Intuition S - Sensing
Will use the skills of logic, analysis and objectivity to make a decision
More subjective and interpersonally involved with the emotion and impact of the decision
T- Thinking F - Feeling
Both types may need to decide to apply for positions, hire people to help them, consider a part-time position, decide to make career changes… but the “how” to decide is determined by the preference
Would enjoy a planned scheduled day with a to-do list of tasks and goals
Typical day: wake up, shower, attend a network group, make 5 phone calls, workout, calling, follow up on leads, 3 hours of online research
Being in control of the day with a system or method to job search and sticking to the plan fits this personality type
Conduct their day by remaining flexible and spontaneous
Prefer to stay open to new information and avoid being tied down to a rigid schedule that requires time management
Perhaps the P personality intended to make calls in the morning but a friend calls and wants to golf – which becomes more of a priority - the golf outing produces a lead… the application is due by the end of the day, he returns home and completes the application, resume and cover letter… finds himself energized by the last-minute pressure
J – Judging P – Perceiving
Job Searching by Type
You will probably use an approach that feels most natural & comfortable
That way often feels like the best way
The challenge… stepping out of our comfort zone!
Use the less preferred way Not about right & wrong, but
knowing we can flip the coin (the other side might serve us better)
Each preference and each type has its own gifts and strengths
It is up to you to decide whether the results are accurate
Type should be used to understand yourself, not as an excuse for doing or not doing something
This indicates your preferences, not your abilities
Keep things in Keep things in perspective…perspective…
