PBL Focus Weeks 6 and 7

Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be a Learner Week 6 We eat in the allocated area. We sit down whilst eating. We put our rubbish in the bin. Week 7 We follow the rules of a game. We accept being out. We play fairly.

Message from the Principal This week we welcomed back Mr Foye to Blaxland Public School. This year Mr Foye will be working with all classes teaching content from the Physical Education, Health and Personal Development syllabus and assisting in maths and literacy across the school. It is great to have Mr Foye working with the students and staff of Blaxland Public School. We also welcome Mr J Hodgson who is teaching 2/3S each Friday. He is an enthusiastic teacher and an asset to our school. If you haven’t already met Mr Hodgson and you see him around please stop and say hello. Mrs Wacker has also started working alongside Mrs Everett each Wednesday supporting the kindergarten students with their English and Mathematics learning. You may have noticed that we are now having a morning assembly every day. Parents are most welcome to stay for the assembly but I ask that you refrain from speaking during the assembly and stand away from the students. Meeting each morning allows the students and teachers to start the day together and communicate events for the day and reminders. Parent Teacher Interviews will take place in Week 11 starting on Monday 6th April. Each class teacher will have one half day allocated during school time on either Monday 6th April or Wednesday 8th April. All staff will also be available after school on Tuesday 7th April from 3:15 - 5:50pm. More information will be sent home to each parent form the class teachers in Week 8.

Blaxland Public School SCOOSH is a P&C managed before and after school care business solely servicing the families of Blaxland Public School. It is an invaluable resource for our school and can provide casual care if needed for parents. If you have a child who is in the School Band program each Friday morning and you have other children who are not, the SCOOSH coordinator Dianne Grey is happy to provide casual care. You will surprised to see how affordable this service is. Please contact Dianne to discuss the option of casual care. The SCOOSH contact number is 0474 632 983. The NSW Department of Education have developed a NSW School Updates App to allow parents and carers to receive operational status updates for NSW public schools. The app will complement the other means of communication available to parents and carers from schools and the Department of Education to ensure families receive timely, accurate information in a crisis. The app is free and available now for iOS (App store) and Android (Google Play) users. You can opt in for notifications about the operational status of as many NSW public schools as you choose. All parents are reminded to follow the NSW Road rules and park in the correct parking places when dropping off and picking up students at Blaxland Public School. Everyone’s goal is to keep our students safe at all times.

The Home School Liaison Officer Justine Crew completed her school attendance check this week. Students with an attendance rate lower that 80% are monitored and discussed. After this meeting, parents may be contacted by the HSLO to discuss your child’s attendance concerns. As you are all aware the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is an important health issue that is having impact across the world. I have attached a parent update from the NSW Department of Education to ensure that everyone is well informed. Please read the information carefully and at this time it is important that we all maintain high hygiene protocols by washing our hands properly and coughing and sneezing into tissues or your elbow if tissues are not available.

Karen Ellis School Administration News In 2018 we introduced a new way of paying for school events and the feedback has been very positive. As a further incentive in 2020 we are offering a $50 discount per student if fees are paid in full by the end of Term 1. You will also be entered into the draw for a family voucher to Monte pizza restaurant in Blaxland! Your strong support in this allows us to provide the best opportunities and educational experiences we can for our students. School

funds are limited and we are continually looking for ways to enhance and further develop the learning experience at school. The School Levy can be made by cash, EFTPOS or POP (Parent on line Payments via the school web site). Thank you in advance for help in providing our children with quality educational programs and resources. If you are having difficulty paying fees please see Mrs Smith or Mrs Ellis in the office. This information will be treated confidentially.
