Highlights of Perkins IV

Page 20: Perkins IV - Implementation

Spirit of the New Law

Leading CTE into the 21st century Global competition Program improvement Ensuring modern,

durable and rigorous CTE programs

Page 21: Perkins IV - Implementation

Purposes of the Act

Develop challenging academic and technical standards and related challenging, integrated instruction

Page 22: Perkins IV - Implementation

Page 23: Perkins IV - Implementation

What is CTE? Change in definition to eliminate the

Connecting the Dots

Page 27: Perkins IV - Implementation

Increased Accountability

New accountability provisions are a reminder that: Funds are not an

entitlement Use of funds must be

flexible and responsive to the accountability data that is collected

Page 28: Perkins IV - Implementation

Increased Accountability

Separate secondary and postsecondary measures

New tech prep indicators

Performance levels at state and local levels

Sanctions

Page 29: Perkins IV - Implementation

Increased Accountability

Data reported must be disaggregated by population groups as described in NCLB

Achievement gaps must be identified and quantified

Page 30: Perkins IV - Implementation

Consolidation or Coordination?

States can choose to merge basic state grant and tech prep funding streams.

Congress has an expectation that we will do a better job of communicating and working together within the CTE family regardless of funding streams.
