2. What is happening with your issue in the middle east?

Some people in the middle east don’t receive the help that they need when it comes to their disability, but now social services over there are attempting to do something to help them. They are using the process of Decentralization which

is the process in which resources are transferred to the state level for the disabled people.

They also use De-institutionalization which is the making provisions of certain services which will better benefit people with disabilities.

• They use and enabling system which is a system that works to support and help people with disabilities to help them maintain a sense of equality

• Gate-keeping is the system of decision-making that they base certain decisions off of the people with disabilities.

UN impact on people with disabilities in the Middle East:

In some areas people with disabilities aren’t receiving the kind of help and the necessities that they need but recently the UN has established the Disability Monitor Initiative Middle East (DMI).

• The DMI’s aim is to gather and share information about good practices relating to the disabled people and social innovation in the Middle East region. They work to come up with Disabled Peoples organizations and other service providers which help them and the people in the region with disabilities.

• A 16 year-old named Amr was born with osteogenesis imperfecta, a genetic disorder also known as ‘glass bone disease’. For seven years now he is visiting the community center for children and young adults with disabilities in the Old Cairo district of Egypt’s capital. The center is organized by a group called the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services (CEOSS). This group along with many others is a group just like the DMI.

The UN has stepped up its game when it comes to disabled people and disasters.

• A survey said that people with disabilities are more vulnerable in a disaster, so they decided to do something about it. They created a routine disaster response program for anyone with a disability. And although much work still needs to be done, people with disabilities are finally getting their voice when it comes to a major issue such as this.

Future of Middle East and people with disabilities:

• Although there are many organizations throughout the Middle east that help with people that are disabled, there are many people who don’t see that it is a major issue so they ignore their plea for help.

• Other people are doing all that they can to help people with disabilities live as normal a life as possible.

Future of Middle East and people with disabilities:

• An organization called “Blaze Sports” is working day by day to help people with disabilities (mainly women and children) receive the rights that they deserve.

• BlazeSports is actively engaged in ensuring that people with disabilities, and particularly women and girls, in the Middle East are provided the same opportunities and access to social services, employment and healthcare and share the same general freedoms as others.

• They are in constant contact with people in the middle east that are helping them fight for the rights of the disabled people.

Will any issues regarding People with Disabilities in the middle east be resolved?

• Even though there are many people who are against rights for the disabled, I think that there is a growing number of people and organizations that support it so eventually, the government and others will realize that this a major issue and that something needs to be done regarding it. I don’t think that the change will happen over night, but in time it will.
