Did you know?: The Mattie Bailey Bushart Fund The will of long time member Mattie Bailey Bushart contained a bequest for our church for the purpose of providing annual scholarships to members of the congregation who have “proved their sincere ambition to become ordained
ministers of the Presbyterian Church, or to pursue any other phase of full time Christian Service to the Presbyterian
Church, exclusive of missionary work.” This “Mattie Bailey Bushart Scholarship Fund” now includes assets totaling in excess of $240,000! The Session heartily and enthusiastically encourages any member interested in Church

COMMITTEE REPORTS (Worship Committee)
A highlight during January was the ordination and installation of new and returning church officers (See pictures on the next page.) This is always a touching and moving experience...to recognize those members who have volunteered to lead our church for the next 3 years shows a commitment all members should applaud.
Sadly this year we will sorely miss one of our own who had finally agreed to serve on the Session. Sandy Booth's name had come up for many years that it was just a given when the nominating committee met that she would be asked to serve. She finally said yes and we all were so anxious to work with her. Her dedication and loyalty to FPC was unwavering and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
January was a busy month for the life of our church, especially for the following to whom we extend a BIG THANK YOU :
· Adeleide Marlatt and Jacque Park for the beautiful decorations that enhanced our worship experiences for the Advent season....wonderful job ladies!! And thanks for returning after Christmas to box them up for storage.
· Connie Schuler, Jad and Theresa Smith for their help in taking down the trees and placing the Chrismons in the correct baggies.
· Mike Ralls, our maintenance guy, for taking all the boxes, baggies, totes, baskets, etc and storing them in the Costume & Prop Room upstairs so we can find them again next year!
· Head Ushers: Many elders shared usher duties this month...thank them for their service please: Pete Chamberlin, Mindy Durham, Holly Hamilton, Caro Jackson, Jo Smith, and Sandy Swanson.
· Communion preparer: Debbie Shedden. · Communion Servers: Nancy Bolks, Al Degayner, Holly Hamilton, Tom Jaggard, Susan
O'Bryant, Sally Reynolds and Pati Vincent. · Wine was furnished by: Sally Reynolds · Scripture Readers for the 11:00 service: Tom Carl, Al Degayner, Mindy Durham, and Sara Rempe.
If you would like to volunteer to read scripture, please contact Veronika Camehl. Notable Notes for February: Head Ushers for February are: Sally Reynolds and Jad Smith.
National Scout Sunday is February 8th this year and our Boy Scout troop will once again assist with and enhance our worship service that day...make plans to attend and show your appreciation to this fine group of young men.

Chancel Choir: An important Note to the Chancel Choir:
NO choir rehearsal Wednesday, February 11, while I attend the annual Texas Music Educator’s Association convention in San Antonio.
I’ve selected the following favorites for February’s offertories:
February 01: “Communion Song,” Words and Music by Barry McGuire, Arranged by Tom Fettke February 08: “You Are Lord of All“ Words and Music by Jeremy Johnson and Archa
Turner, Arranged by Phillip Keveren February 15: “I Cry Holy” Words and Music y Dan McGowan, Arranged by Hal Wright February 22: “My Sacrifice,” Words, Music, and Arrangement by Scott Jeffries.
The members of the Chancel Choir join me in welcoming back returning Winter Texans to our choir: Sue Smith, Mae Clausen, Jeff Patterson and John Dennis! Though our Winter visitors are only here a few months, it’s wonderful to have them share their talents and love of music with us while in Rockport.

The Hand Bell Choir...
...is rehearsing the following pieces to play as a Prelude on ...
February 15: “In Joyful Praise” by Douglas E. Wagner, Based on the hymn tune HYMN TO JOY and TALLIS’ CANON
March 1: “Our Lord and King Adore!” Douglas E. Wagner, based on the hymn tune ITALIAN HYMN, LYONS and DEN HERREN
We have need for 4 Hand Bell ringers to replace those who have had to drop out. We rehearse 30 minutes on Monday at 5:30. The only criteria is a commitment to attend practice as much as possible but most importantly be present for a scheduled performance to play your bell(s.) If this intrigues you, consider observing a rehearsal.

I selected this year’s Easter Cantata from the Music Library archives. It was probably one of the most powerful, thought-provoking and inspirational Cantata’s we have performed. For weeks afterward people were still commenting about how it affected them. The performance date and time have not been finalized, so I will wait to announce those details in March’s newsletter.
I invite/welcome/encourage anyone who would like to sing the Cantata with the Choir to join us on Wednesday nights at 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary for a 30-minute rehearsal.
In addition to a play book each choir member receives a part-dominant CD to assist them in
learning the words and music.
My only request is a commitment to attend at least 3 rehearsals plus the final rehearsal.

The Living Last Supper
A Dramatic Musical Experience by Ruth Elaine Schram
One of Christianity's most significant events was brilliantly portrayed by Leonardo Da Vinci centuries ago: The Last Supper. This Renaissance masterpiece is brought to life in Ruth Elaine Schram's remarkable work, "The Living Last Supper." The music deftly and passionately captures the pathos of the event while, one by one, the disciples speak, expressing their innermost thoughts with brief but poignant monologues that also portray their incredible astonishment at Jesus' assertion that one of them would betray Him that fateful night. Audiences describe this as high drama, emotionally impacting spiritual reconnection with the true significance of The Last Supper. The music is tuneful with some of Ms. Schram’s finest choral writing to date. "The Living Last Supper" is a truly memorable presentation. Performance time: approx. 35 minutes

We meet for one hour or less on the first Wednesday of each month (February 4,) for lunch in
the Café followed by a short business meeting. All men who attend our church are invited to
enjoy fine fellowship, excellent food, and share in our commitment to helping
others In ways such as that described in the following email…

Subject: hello
Just an update. We have a photo of the little girl your Men's group sponsored. Beca Escolar, is in
Para el Kinder Tamaulipas School. They established an account for her money and will draw from that
each year. I have a receipt for 2014-2015 school year for $75. Will bring her picture and receipt when
we return to Rockport on the 13th of Feb.
It is about 2:35 pm and I just got up from a nap. We went across to Progresso, Mexico this morning
at 6 am to build a house. It was partly sponsored by a member of your church. I was able to come
up with the necessary funds to put with the donation to build a complete house totaling $1400. That
is the 448th house that the builders have built.
We sorted through the boxes you sent. There were 8 blankets that
were given to the women's quilters group, and they are all made into
a quilt.
Next week we will sort and pack the backpacks. We came up with 27
backpacks, of these 2 are from our neighbor 7 we brought. The lady
we are helping has 17 for a total of 46. We are planning to use the
soft bags you sent to have a total of 72 bag, to hand out. We will
have 50lbs of rice put into small containers, each will get a pack of
Ramen Noodles. The soap, pencils and paper will be hopefully go
in each bag. Then we will have 3 of those boxes of toys
to distribute.
The weather has been rainy across
the border, so the plan is to take
this stuff over a week from this
coming Sat.

Editor’s Note: The 6-year old son of Carolina Hernandez’s friends
was diagnosed with T-Cell leukemia right after Mother’s Day and has
been in and out of the hospital ever since. After we sent a Prayer
Comforter to Anthony Buitron and his family, this card arrived in the
mail: Inscription:
With Thanks to All of You. You’re simply wonderful.
God Bless, Anthony Buitron & Family (Card was signed by Anthony)
Editor’s Note: The following message and picture were received via
Facebook from Nina Hon, an army wife and friend of The Church Lady’s
daughter in law. We sent Nina a prayer comforter when she was pregnant
with baby Reed and dealing with complications due to the pregnancy
worsened by her husband’s deployment in Afghanistan. He ultimately
made it home in time for an uneventful delivery.
Still enjoying his prayer quilt from Beverly Jacobson and her church! He loves it and plays with it or on it almost every day and we always think of you!

Editor’s Note: The Church Lady’s step mother was
diagnosed mid-December with severely clogged carotid arteries needing immediate surgery. Travel plans for the
Christmas holiday were cancelled and she was admitted to
hospital. We rushed a Prayer Comforter to her and
received his card once she recovered:
Inscription:
A little thoughtfulness can be the greatest blessing of all. Thank You.
“Thank you so much for the beautiful prayer cloth. You
are a special group of Ladies. May God richly Bless all of you. Ina Reams”
Editor’s Note: When Ed and Lou Fegley learned Ed’s Sister in law Mary had suffered a stroke, we sent her a
Prayer Comforter. Following is the note she later sent to Ed & Lou expressing her thanks.
Dear Ed & Lou, I’m so sorry it has taken me so long to get in touch. Guess I let my physical problems get in the way. The month of December I had surgery on my back to have a neuro-transmitter installed trying to get relief from all the pain I’d been having—I’m happy to say so far the pain is gone! Well, after surgery they sent me home and one week later I was having dinner when a friend noticed something going on with me—she got help and they called 911—so to the hospital I went with a light stroke. Thankfully we look out for each other here. So with God’s help—my friends being alert and prayers from you all, I have come thru without any paralysis or any ill effects. Of course by the time I got back here to the re-hab department I developed pneumonia. Well, the prayer blanket came at just the perfect time to help. Thank your church for their prayers and concern. Just proves that distance doesn’t matter. It’s the love in your heart. May God richly bless each of you and thank you again.

Odds and Ends…..
My dad will turn 90 years young on Friday, February 6 and my sister and I are flying to Oklahoma to “make a big deal out of it.” This “Eveready Bunny” is STILL working part-time! My return flight doesn’t land until early evening on Monday, February 9th so I need a volunteer to “desk sit” that morning from 8:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. Duties are light: answer the phone if it rings and greet visitors if they come in. It should be a relatively uneventful day and I have an “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Desk Sitting But Was Afraid to Ask” manual to field questions if you’ve never done it before. Most important thing to know is: bring reading material or something to do… Call the church office (361-729-6251) or email [email protected] if interested. Thanks! The Church Lady
take a moment to read the “Prayer Concerns” under your alpha letter on
the back page for names you have forgotten are there and no longer in need
of intercessory prayer. We need room for names to be added in 2015 plus
the list has become so enormous it is difficult to manage.

Praise/Celebrations/Congratulations:
1) Tom and Yvonne Jaggard not only celebrated having all 3 sons home for Christmas, but also rejoiced when Justin announced he and girlfriend Mary Ann Brown were now engaged; 2) At the 11:00 Morning Worship Service on December 28, the congregation applauded the Jaggard family, accompanied by mom Yvonne on the piano, after they all sang the offertory. Beautiful sight and sound! 3) Bev Jacobson (The Church Lady) learned on January 6 her son, serving in South Korea the last 2 years, received orders for Fort Bliss, (El Paso) Texas. He and family will be returning to the United States this
spring (for security reasons the date cannot be made public.) 4) Connie Schuler was released by her oncologist on January 6 after 5 years under her care. Connie’s lung cancer gave her only a 20 per cent chance of survival….and she beat the odds!
Prayers and sympathy of the church are extended to the sons, family and friends of Sandy Booth who passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 20. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Friday, January 30, at 2:00
PM in the Sanctuary. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
